An announcement for my long-time friends, students, and colleagues!
I am coauthoring writing a book on the creation and early history of the CubeSat standard and am looking for those interested in sharing memories of our past projects and their first CubeSats and PocketQubes. Please share to spread the word and let me know if you would be interested in the book as completed!
While outstanding technical accounts by others have been written on this, we want to focus on the fun (and not-so-fun) stories and drama that went on during the early years of the CubeSat and PocketQube programs but have not been recorded.
So, if you worked on some of those early nanosats (with or without me) or were a student I worked with @Standford University, @California Polytechnic State University (Cal Poly), @Morehead State University or @Weber State University, I would appreciate your help with compiling a history of what went on during those times.
Aaron Zucherman, PhD (a former student of mine from Morehead State University), who is taking the lead on organizing and conducting interviews for the project. So, if you are interested in participating, please contact him via LinkedIn or his email [email protected].
Thank you all, and I look forward to reconnecting and reminiscing!

Great turnout for the first ASTRA-Con at Morehead State University Space Science Center, including @BlueOrigin, @KratosDefense, @SenBillNelson and @RepHalRogers. TSL student volunteers get to met NASA Administrator Bill Nelson, who delivered a remarkable and truly inspirational talk on NASA’s future missions and pursuing your dreams. The future is very exciting! Congressman Hal Rodgers introduced Administrator Nelson and took the time to talk with Jose Garcia and Matt Craft with TSL. We greatly appreciate Congressman Rodgers' leadership in promoting and supporting space activities in the Commonwealth of Kentucky!

The Twiggs Space Lab team was excited to participate in the first ASTRA-Con (Appalachian Space Technology & Research Conference) at Morehead State University Space Science Center. Matt Craft, President of TSL delivering a presentation on “Tools for STEM Education.” Professor Jose Garcia at the TSL Exhibit Booth with TSL student volunteers. Professor Garcia’s students and other space science students are excited to use the CanSat Kit, SkyQube, QB2 PocketQube System, TSL Multi-Ground Station and other TSL technologies in the classroom. TSL is providing hands-on, real-world training for our future space scientists and systems engineers who will help solve the challenges of the 21st century space programs and provide innovative solutions.

It’s almost time for the SEES High School Intern Virtual Science Symposium for Summer 2023! Today, at noon CST July 24th through Wednesday, July 26th, 2023, NASA SEES YouTube channel https://t.co/KalbhsODOM NASA SEES https://t.co/rTJJzvhXqH via @YouTube
@melissapore and @LauraTomlin6 using an Earth model simulator to demonstrate SkyQube’s data collecting capabilities, including: temperature; humidity; pressure; lux; magnetometer, accelerometer, and gyroscope measurements in 3 axes; real time clock stamp; and other measurements, with data shown on the Display Module and recorded on a microSD card on the Data Logger Module for future analysis. NASA’s STEM Enhancement in Earth Science (SEES) program at the University of Texas Center for Space Research @UTCSR is an excellent program that is inspiring and educating our future space scientists and systems engineers to tackle the challenges of the 21st century and lead our space programs to boldly explore new frontiers.

Dr. Ben Malphrus @bmalphrus and Professor Jose Garcia @jlgarciamx talking with a group of international students in Aeronautics from Mexico. Great opportunity to visit Morehead State University Space Science Center. A beautiful state-of-the-art facility containing classrooms, laboratories, cleanrooms, and equipment for satellite environmental testing. The two-story, building encompasses 45,000 square feet of floor space and includes a control center for the 21-meter space antenna system. TSL’s cleanroom is located on the second floor of the building. What a great tour opportunity!

I spoke with Prof. @BobTwiggs today regarding the NASA’s STEM Enhancement in Earth Science (SEES) program and the HS student interns at the University of Texas Center for Space Research @UTCSR . Bob said this group of students are so smart and driven and are amazing to work with on these projects. Thanks to @NASA, @wispacegrant, @TexasSpaceGrant, @ZEROGResearch, @UTAerospace, @utmechengr, @CockrellSchool and other organizations that fund and support STEM educational opportunities for students. These programs are life changing for the students and greatly benefit our society!
Such a proud parent moment. Victoria at the Johnson Space station. With Astronaut Dan Tani, her group and mentors, and her gro ballon launch into space. I am grateful for her opportunity and opening up her mind to a different world of engineering. @UTCSR
@LauraTomlin6 leading a zero-gravity research session at the STEM Enhancement in Earth Science (SEES) Summer High School Intern Program at the University of Texas Center for Space Research @UTCSR. Ms. Tomlin demonstrating TSL’s ZQube, a remote sensing platform with a Core Module with built-in sensor suite, Data Logger Module with a real-time clock, GPS Module, Display Module, and a Payload Development Module for students to create their own scientific missions. Students sitting around the table brainstorming Zero-G research missions. Z-Qube definitely generated creative conversations amongst the students. Even the teachers, Ms. Tomlin and @melissapore love Z-Qube!
