@AorakiTrading We need Starlink competition but not entirely correct on 2nd point. V2 sats will work with existing phones when using carrier spectrum or if SL buys more mobile spectrum, like upper C band. But true that the EchoStar spectrum needs new phones.
@CraigBr13961410 Cadence is the next discussion. If they don't ship another batch soon for a July launch, might only get to 15 sats deployed this year at best. And BB6 still hasn't been demo'd, so viability still a question until doing so.
@mikeddano Is that C-band FWA or enabling lower band 5G for FWA? Seems unlikely higher performing C-band can make that kind of a jump in covereage so quicklly.
@WatsItMataRelli The upcoming launch isn't as important to stock direction as the cadence that is needed afterwards. AST needs another launch in July for cadence but no announcement of a batch delivery yet. If July not met, maybe only 15 SATs deployed this year at best.
@CryptoWWest@LionnetPierre These are just prototypes iterating with lessons learned, not yet production vehicles. Same playbook used with Falcon rockets before going production.
@keyesmn@CaminaDrummer4@SpacBobby SL sats also support carrier spectrum supporting existing phones as well. The spectrum they bought will need new phones but in the 10+ year big picture it will be most phones. And they will probably bid on upcoming auctions as well for mobile spectrum.
@spacanpanman Right, so at least in US Starlink D2D isn't a threat. SL's threat is the $1T valuation, broadband encroachment and global presence, more than the Big3 combined so the latter are collaborating for leverage but will still probably do biz with SL in the end in some form over time.
@SpaceMobASTS@AST_SpaceMobile If July launch is to happen, another 3+ sats should be delivering soon or at least announced by now, which hasn't happened yet. It's a signal that AST doesn't have an inventory of sats ready to go, hence likely not a high yield rate.
@SpaceMobASTS@AST_SpaceMobile Fair to say that AST has the better the design for now but better design doesn't matter if execution issues, which appears to be the case. The current yield pace is 4 sats delivered in 5 months. If they don't pick up pace to a cadence Starlink D2D more likely to surpass.
@keyesmn@CaminaDrummer4@SpacBobby The AST yield so far is 4 sats delivered in about 5 months. At this pace SL might have nextgen sats deploying at faster rate with a full constellation before AST. But I do think AST will get there some day, just much longer than claimed.
@keyesmn@CaminaDrummer4@SpacBobby AST appears to struggle with yield rate, those passing all tests ready to ship. To get to cadence they need to ship 3+ every month. For a July launch the next 3 should've been announced by now for a delivery soon - not yet. I suspect AST still can't get 3+/month yield rate.
@AngryPilaf@SonnyDickson Will give Samsung Fold another look, I just don't care for Samsung update lags and prefer Pixel native Android. I have iPhone 15 Pro too but Apple so far behind now. If one of the 3 announce an upcoming 8.5" foldable I'm there.
@AngryPilaf@SonnyDickson I do wish either Pixel/Samsung/Apple would do an 8.5" foldable. That' my sweet spot. I have an iPad Mini and it's barely a tablet. 7.8" ugh.
