U.S. Congressman Hamadeh met with Mohammed Yisr Barnieh, Syria’s Minister of Finance in the Syrian transitional government - a seasoned economist and policymaker who has held senior roles in international financial institutions and in shaping Syria’s financial markets.
Facilitated by the U.S.-Syria Business Council, in a rare and historic moment, U.S. @RepAbeHamadeh
traveled to Damascus for a focused six-hour visit to meet with Interim Syria President Ahmad Al-Sharaa and Syria’s Foreign Minister Asaad Hassan al-Shaibani.
Concluding the meeting, USSBC members @jaysalkini@basselojjeh@abdul_akel joined Chamber President Ayman Maoulawi in reaffirming a shared vision: tariff alignment, industrial modernization, and stronger direct trade.
USSBC’s @SameerSaboungi and Chamber President Ayman Maoulawi sealed their commitment to corporation with a handshake.
Together, they discussed ways to modernize Syria’s tariff structure, improve market access for both nation.
I encourage @bisgov@CommerceGov to move quickly to implement President Trump’s Executive Order and finally completely lift the export controls on Syria.
Leaving these export controls on the books only benefits China.
President Trump’s vision is clear and should not be further delayed!
In President Ayman Maoulawi office, the USSBC and Damascus Chamber leadership exchanged symbolic gifts - a gesture underscoring shared intent to build trust, exchange expertise, and work towards reciprocal tariff reforms.
