In a study published in @ScienceTM, #UTSW researchers found that treating glioblastoma with EGFR inhibitors made the cancer more responsive to chemotherapy in preclinical models, revealing a potential new strategy for fighting this type of brain cancer. https://t.co/Y6ZUcmNEty

[UT Southwestern Medical Center @UTSWMedCenter]

Scientists at #UTSW have discovered how NSUN2, a key enzyme linked to cancer and neurological disorders, targets which RNA molecules to modify. See how grasping this process could help researchers uncover new ways to diagnose and treat disease.https://t.co/7Be6OAsCHJ #research

Great AACR conference on discovery and clinical impact in pediatric cancer. Abstracts due Thursday July 9th at 1pm. Proud to be organizing with Drs. Olivier Delattre, Annie Huang, and Suzanne MacFarland. #AACRpediatric26

[Peng Ji @PengJi_lab]

Delighted to share our new study published in @NatureGenet, led by Xu Han and @Kehan_Ren_PhD: red blood cell nurseries look fundamentally different in mice and humans. The textbook macrophage-centered island is a mouse feature — human erythroblasts self-organize on their own. https://t.co/B0i3l8BxHy Thread below 🧵👇

Join us this fall for the 2026 FASEB Aneuploidy Conference! Learn about exciting science in chromosome biology, genome stability, development, and cancer + plenty of trainee talks and career development sessions. @FASEBorg #ANESRC

Abstracts due August 3!

#WIPs highlight:Tina Andoh (Gruber Lab) presents work showing that VISTA binds highly sulfated heparan sulfate in a pH-dependent manner; a potential mechanism for VISTA-mediated immune suppression that may help guide new strategies for VISTA-targeted cancer immunotherapy. 🧬🔬

[UTSWCancerBio @UTSWCancerBio]

#WIPs highlight: Arlene Levario (Conacci-Sorrell Lab) presents work identifying ZNF692 as a novel regulator of ribosome biogenesis and nucleolar integrity. By showing that ZNF692 loss triggers nucleolar stress and may strengthen p53-mediated tumor suppression. 🧬🔬

[UTSWCancerBio @UTSWCancerBio]

#WIPs highlight: Blake Schwettmann (Maddipati & Brekken Lab) presents work identifying MIF as a driver of immune suppression in PDAC. By showing that MIF inhibition reduces tumor growth and metastasis while shifting the TME toward anti-tumor immunity. 🧬🔬

WIPS highlight: Xiyu Liu (Zhang Lab) presents in vivo Perturb-Seq mapping genetic interaction drivers of metastasis. 🧬
PTEN-centered networks reveal how gene interactions fuel breast cancer lung metastasis and inform combinatorial therapies. 🔬

[UTSWCancerBio @UTSWCancerBio]

WIPS highlight: Emily Patterson-Rees (Strand Lab) presents a multimodal atlas of the lower urinary tract. 🧬
Single-cell and spatial profiling uncover new cell types, sex differences, and disease targets in bladder cancer, BPH, and UTIs. 🔬

[UTSWCancerBio @UTSWCancerBio]

WIPS highlight: Wei Ma (Zhang Lab)
presents an in vivo CRISPR screen identifying CHD7 as a driver of radio-resistance in brain metastasis.Loss of CHD7 increases radiosensitivity and disrupts DNA repair, highlighting it as a target to enhance radiotherapy and prevent recurrence.🔬

[UTSWCancerBio @UTSWCancerBio]

Thank you to Dr. #Leah_Banks and #Adriana_Almodova for an insightful WIPS session!

From CVs and mock interviews to negotiation strategies, international resources, and careers beyond the bench; valuable tools for our trainees. 🚀
