After the strong 7.3 magnitude earthquake that shook Santo and neighbouring provinces last night, our volunteers were out on the field conducting assessments.

The earthquake caused structural damage to various buildings causing schools, markets, and businesses to close

Our volunteers have been mobilised on Ambae island following the recent volcanic eruption.

Relief supplies such as hygiene kits, cartons of drinking water, first-aid kits, menstrual hygiene kits have also been unloaded and pre-positioned on the island.

To strengthen preparedness, @vanuaturedcross is equipping volunteers across six branches with Personnel Protective Equipment (PPE) kits for safer disaster response.

To deliver anticipatory action at scale, it must become an integral part of national disaster risk management systems. This requires anticipatory action to be integrated in:

- Legal & policy frameworks
- Forecasting & early warning capacities
- Disaster risk financing instruments
- Operational preparedness & response plans

When these pathways are strengthened together, countries can reliably anticipate and mitigate hazards before disasters strike.
