New in @sciencemagazine we report a role of taurine deficiency as a driver of aging.

I thank all the collaborators and funders as well as my present and past institutions in USA, UK and India for supporting my team.
The hill I will die on - we have to rethink graduate training.

Finally—this is the kind of study the field has been waiting for.
A 720-person randomized clinical trial testing low-dose rapamycin in adults 65+ is about to get underway at @UAZPharmacy , with the goal of answering a simple but critical question: can we actually improve healthspan in humans?
In this episode, I sit down with Dr. Bonnie LaFleur to break down the design, the science, and why this trial is different:
• Real clinical endpoints (frailty + inflammation)
• Long-term follow-up (years, not weeks)
• Deep phenotyping—genetics, epigenetics, immune profiles, and more
• Early data suggesting no major safety signals at weekly dosing
We also dig into what we still don’t know—pharmacokinetics, individual variability, and whether rapamycin can truly shift the trajectory of aging in people.
This is a big moment for the field. Not hype. Not speculation. Data.

#Taurine supplementation, #methionine restriction, and moderate exercise synergistically #extendslifespan while preserving reproductive capacity in Drosophila. This suggests that uncoupling the traditional trade-off between lifespan and functional #health is feasible.
@HeWaHippo We investigated this metabolomic connection sometime ago. What pathways it corrects downstream of methionine remains to be seen. Here is a link. https://t.co/OHe2Ixy4oS

Key metabolites predictive of biological aging, such as #taurine and citrate, were not captured by traditional age analyses, pointing to their potential role as #biomarkers for #healthyaging.
Happy to share my students’ study

Tried my hands on making, in a healthy way, Bhuna Gosht (Goat meat) for Saturday dinner. My son enjoyed it with rice and home made roti and said it is the best meat he has ever had, which made up for all the efforts!!
Taurine levels correlate with thyroid function in humans and taurine supplementation shows beneficial effects on thyroid functions in animal models. Will it do the same in humans? https://t.co/rg17yBUlUm

A Rutgers study finds people use 100+ chemicals daily through personal care products, some linked to cancer & hormone disruption. The good news? Safer choices = lower exposure.

@MissLadyLee Taurine supplementation makes animals live longer (worms, mice) and healthier (worms, mice, monkeys), and conversely if you make animals taurine-deficient they have poor health and have 40% shorter lifespan. For details putting the setudies in context see: https://t.co/6omEPOyDMM
