Strengthening partnerships for health was at the heart of my discussions in N'Djamena during a working dinner with development partners and donors as part of my visit to Chad.
We discussed some of the country's most pressing health priorities, including the humanitarian situation in eastern Chad, malnutrition, health security, universal health coverage and digital health.
What stood out throughout our discussions was a shared recognition that stronger coordination, sustained investment and collective action are essential to building resilient health systems that leave no one behind.
I welcomed the continued commitment of partners to support Chad's efforts to improve the health and well-being of its people.
WHO remains committed to working alongside the Government of Chad, development partners and regional institutions to advance health for all.
Quality sexual and reproductive health care starts with strengthening the skills of health workers.
In #Benin 🇧🇯, courses on sexual and reproductive health and rights (#SRHR) were introduced in health training schools in 2019.
Like Alida, a midwifery student, more than 2,000 students have already benefited from this essential training, equipping them to deliver respectful, inclusive and high-quality care.

As we increase the pace in our implementation of decentralization strategy for the #Ebola response, it was encouraging progress to see the scaling of lab capacity
Still so much more to do - we keep pushing
Health Cabinet Secretary @HonAdenDuale emphasised that preparedness,

✅ Preparing ahead of time
Said during Kenya's training of Rapid Response Teams on #Ebola preparedness and response.
This week in Kigali, @WHO, @statafric and the @WorldBankGroup are convening a regional training to strengthen countries' capacity to monitor financial protection in health.
Better data leads to better policies, helping ensure that people can access the health services they need without financial hardship.
Today, @NPHI_Kenya and partners are training Kenya's Rapid Response Teams on #Ebola. They are the people who detect, investigate and contain disease outbreaks early. The training equips them to pass these skills on to teams in every county.
While Kenya has recorded 0 cases of #Ebola, preparedness remains essential to safeguard communities and the wider region. 🇰🇪
WHO Rapid Risk Assessment on #Ebola caused by Bundibugyo virus in the Democratic Republic of the Congo, Uganda:
The risk assessment has been revised:
🔴 Very high at the national level in #DRC
🟠 High for #Uganda
🟠 High for countries sharing land borders with DRC and Uganda
🔵 Low for the rest of the Africa region and at the global level
The risk in DRC remains very high, because:
⚠️ The outbreak has continued to expand rapidly in terms of numbers of cases and geographical spread with more areas affected
⚠️ Epidemiological links and the full chain of transmission are not yet clearly established, and the source of the outbreak remains under investigation
⚠️ Ongoing conflict restricts movement of frontline responders and surveillance teams
⚠️ Community fear and misinformation hinder case detection, contact tracing, and isolation, and potentially facilitate disease spread
⚠️ Limited healthcare infrastructure and delays in laboratory confirmation, although these are being scaled up by DRC, with support of partners
WHO continues to support DRC to put an end to this outbreak https://t.co/hb3BcB531k
Eight more people have recovered in Nyankunde and are returning home to their families.
Moments like these bring renewed hope to communities affected by the outbreak. They show what can be achieved when health workers, partners and local leaders work together with determination and purpose.
@WHO is working alongside the national authorities and partners to bring the outbreak under control.
Encouraging news from Mongbwalu, Ituri Province, #DRC.
The first recovered #Ebola patient in the area has returned home, marking an important milestone in the response.
This outcome is thanks to the tireless efforts of health workers providing care under challenging conditions. It shows that people can survive Ebola when they seek care early and receive timely treatment. We urge anyone experiencing symptoms to seek care without delay.
.@WHO, with funding from the Contingency Fund for Emergencies (CFE), supported Nigeria's Lassa fever response by co-designing and producing over 80,000 IEC and social behaviour change materials in line with the National Lassa Fever Incident Action Plan (IAP).
The materials, available in English, Pidgin, Hausa, Yoruba and Igbo, were handed over to @NCDCgov for dissemination to hotspot LGAs, high-burden states, and other areas requiring strengthened preparedness and risk communication.
In #DRC’s 17th #Ebola outbreak, early response days focused on coordination, refining strategy & scaling operations

"Cresty usually cries a little after vaccination, but when I hold him, he feels better and starts smiling again. When that happens, I smile too, because I know he is protected against disease," says Elyam, Cresty's mother.
Driven by the trust of parents like Elyam, the commitment of health workers and support from @WHO, the Expanded Programme on Immunization in #Congo is expanding access to #vaccination services across communities.

In Ebola-stricken eastern Democratic Republic of the Congo, a massive push for early testing and contact tracing is underway to contain the virus, says @WHO.
As of 8 June, there have been 550 confirmed cases of #Ebola and 101 deaths in DRC 🇨🇩.
Yesterday I visited Mulago National Referral Hospital in Kampala, where a separate unit has been prepared to treat #Ebola patients. I'm glad for the opportunity to meet with health workers in charge and thank them for their dedication. I am very happy with all the work invested in preparedness and readiness that I have witnessed.
I commend the Government of #Uganda for the work being done to control Ebola and provide care for those affected. Uganda’s leadership has been central to the response, and @WHO remains committed to supporting national efforts to stop transmission, save lives and protect communities.
