With the Football World Cup beginning in Canada, Mexico and the United States, I have issued a statement to reassure fans that the Ebola risk remains low.

There are no Ebola cases in the host countries or in the European Region, and there is no reason to change travel plans.

Enjoy the tournament, stay informed, and seek medical care if you feel unwell after recent travel to affected areas in the Democratic Republic of the Congo or Uganda.

We must also reject stigma. The spread of Ebola is not determined by nationality or ethnicity. Stigma can stop people from seeking care and make outbreaks harder to control.

MV Hondius has now left the shores of Tenerife. All passengers have safely disembarked and are either on their way or have arrived home.

#Spain executed this complex operation in style and I’m not surprised -- I witnessed outstanding leadership, professionalism and expertise.

But the work is not over. @WHO continues to work closely with experts from all the countries involved. We have requested that they report to WHO on the health and well-being of passengers and crew through the IHR platform weekly.

Today, Romania’s Health Minister Alexandru-Florin Rogobete and I signed the Biennial Collaborative Agreement (BCA) - setting out how we will work together in 2026–2027.

We will focus on 4 priorities: improving access and quality of care, strengthening the health and care workforce, advancing digital health, including the responsible use of AI, and boosting emergency preparedness.

This agreement builds on our partnership under the National Recovery and Resilience Plan (NRRP) and marks a shift from recovery to innovation and sustainability.

I commended Minister Rogobete for his leadership in health reforms, including modernizing infrastructure through NRRP funds and strengthening outpatient care to reduce pressure on hospitals and expand equitable access – including to screening, palliative and home-based care.

Sexual violence is a serious public health issue that impacts individuals, families, and entire communities. Addressing it requires strong, sustained, and coordinated action across borders.

The collaboration between the two countries is taking shape through the #RONOR project, which supports the strengthening of Romania’s network of sexual violence intervention centres integrating Norway’s expertise.

I have launched a special initiative to tackle violence against women & girls, under the second European Programme of Work (EPW2), which we are co-creating together with all WHO/Europe Member States.

Through this initiative, we are working to strengthen the capacity of health systems to prevent, detect, and respond to gender-based violence, while centering the voices and rights of survivors.

Let us continue working together to build a Europe where every woman and girl can live free from violence - with dignity, safety & support.

Norway 🇳🇴 , Malta 🇲🇹 , Luxembourg 🇱🇺, Romania 🇷🇴 - thank you for opening your doors to 18 patients from #Gaza.

@WHO, in collaboration with @eu_echo, supported their evacuation via Kerem Shalom.

With this latest effort, the number of patients evacuated from Gaza has reached 799 – through both @eu_echo & bilateral arrangements. The number of WHO/Europe Member States receiving Palestinian patients has now risen to 15.

Grateful to every nation stepping up with compassion & care.

Yesterday, @WHO in collaboration with @eu_echo supported the medical evacuation of 18 patients to Norway, Malta, Luxembourg, and Romania via Kerem Shalom. 29 companions travelled with the patients.

With the Rafah crossing closed since 18 March and daily medical evacuations suspended, far too few patients are able to leave #Gaza for the urgent care they desperately need.

10,500 -12,500 patients in Gaza still need medical evacuation.

WHO urgently calls for the immediate resumption of medical evacuations through all possible routes, including the restoration of medical referrals to the West Bank and East Jerusalem.

Lift the aid blockade. Protect health care. Ceasefire.
