1. We propose a generalized mathematical framework for estimating Heteroscadastic Aleatoric Uncertainty for any Neural Network.
2. We show that this gives rich informational cues for various robotics tasks.
3. This is super useful for tiny robots!
First paper from PeAR WPI (with PRG UMD) made it to the cover of Science Robotics @SciRobotics: https://t.co/C8ahd4mTCM
We observed that insects use minimal information for navigation. We realized "It's not the information but uncertainty is the key!"
Imagine flexible robots that can dive, swim, climb, and crawl to assist in challenging search and rescue environments. WPI robotics engineering professor @MarkusNemitz is working to develop them. https://t.co/tspBzJiZfl @WPI_Robotics
Congratulations to Dr. Zhanyue (Jimmy) Zhao who completed is PhD in Robotics Engineering focused on MRI-compatible surgical robots, and I had the pleasure of hooding at the @WPI Commencement! Congrats to him and all the @WPI_Robotics graduates!!
Thrilled to celebrate @WPI_Robotics Asst. Prof. Loris Fichera @lorisfichera on receiving the prestigious @NSF#CAREER Award 🏆 for his innovative work in "Next-Generation Surgical Robots for Energy-based Surgery". Congrats on pushing the boundaries of. medical robotics! 🎉
I’m so thrilled to have won the NSF CAREER award! Over the next five years, my lab @WPI will look into energy-based tool-tissue interactions to help build the next generation of surgical robots: https://t.co/ZG6vVLA0lP
