Teaching in this new reality of #elearning needs to be centered on: predictability- to combat the unpredictability of the world, flexibility - each student is facing different challenges, connection - still building relationships, and empowerment - giving students choice #edtc300
The push for minimum grading (ie. - giving 50% instead of 0 for missing work) often creates friction in a staff because it isn't approached correctly. It's a stop-gap solution for a bigger problem that's never truly addressed.

I have been having good success working towards building a thinking classroom with #VNPS during my pre-internship. Lots of authentic engagement and excitement to solve problems. Not easy during COVID but the students are grateful to get out their desks for part of the day!
Awesome experience using a polynomials Menu Math (@NatBanting) task with grade 9s during my pre-internship.
There was a lot of frustrated faces but also out of that came a lot of great “aha” moments as well!
kahkiyaw awàsisak kistakimàwak anohc kisikaw = every child matters today (orange shirt day). Today we recognize all those children that were stripped of their language, cultural and family ties. The scars of the intergenerational trauma still exist today.
As I sit on the seeder, I am coming to a greater realization of how simple the metric system is. Everything on the farm is imperial, dealing with pounds, miles and acres are never round simple numbers unlike the metric system equivalents of hectares, kilos, kilometers #mathchat
@NatBanting Despite the metric system being the official system of measurement in Canada. The use of both metric and imperial measurement systems by Canadians is interesting mathematically and historically.
Again, if you think that online learning is equal to and can replace in-person traditional learning, then you must also think that online relationships, friendships and even parenting are equal to traditional relationships, friendships and parenting.
SPOILER: They are not.
Looking to add some books to my summer reading list. Looking for suggestions on any books a new educator should read. If you have any suggestions let me know! #edchat
@missmatiowsky I have been using the old trusted phone call. But FaceTime, zoom and Houseparty have been what I’ve seen and heard about for staying in contact
