Interesting. X is the future of news...and culture?
The BBC's past is both colorful and profound.
One of the greatest apologetic works of all time (Mere Christianity, have you read it?) exists because one converted atheist was asked to encourage a nation in her darkest hour.
A4 - If I'm honest (I just read something about hypocrites!), I often lack motivation with regard to "practicing righteousness." The text mentioned earlier, from 2 Cor. 5, is motivating in the exact opposite way, and sometimes I need that! #IsHonestyAPolicy#HealthyFaithChat

A2. The word "hypocrite" comes from a term for an actor, which fits, acting like someone you are not, or more often pretending to be someone you are not. It's usually to deceive for some reason.
A2 - The hypocrite is a thespian who pretends to have virtues, beliefs, or qualities they don't actually have. In this case, righteousness. But they make a fine show of it, all for the accolades and rewards of men.

A1. It's really about motive. It can be just going through the motions to get a reward like Pavlov's dogs, or at the very least just insincere. But if our heart is in the right place and our motive is just, it's perfectly fine to be rewarded for doing good.
A1 - Well, he draws the comparison right off the bat between those who "practice their righteousness" to be seen by others, and those who do so for God alone, and his secret reward.

Annnnd we're off. Q1: in Matt 6:1-8, Jesus repeatedly speaks of people receiving rewards for their spiritual service; what do you think about this concept of being rewarded for "practicing your righteousness?" Does it seem too transactional? #HealthyFaithChat

A6 - This is an interesting text. John points out that his position of authority was the vehicle God used to prophesy. "...not...of his own accord, but being high priest THAT YEAR..."
Caiaphas spoke geopolitical, but God spoke prophetically to every generation.

Q6. The high priest Caiaphas says, 'it is advantageous for us that one man should die on behalf of the people, rather than the whole nation perish!' implying killing Jesus. John says it was a prophecy not only for the Jewish nation but also for non-Jews.Why so? #HealthyFaithChat
