A great way to end the week is at an AVMR Network meeting! Coaches and administrators explored n-tiles instructional activities from Ready Set Math and had great conversations about how they support implementation at their schools @MathematicsFcps
Thank you Carrie, Ashlyn, Katie, & Tamara for the session on moving past counting in addition & subtraction! How students structure numbers is important if we want them to move past counting in addition & subtraction. @BuildMathMinds#BuildMathMinds24
AVMR 1 day 4 reflections, “participating in this class has helped me become more confident in my mathematical thinking”. “You will learn where students are on their math journey and how to continue to advance their math thinking” @USMathRecovery @MathematicsFcps
Hundreds of smiles as we elicited students thinking during AVMR Course 1 day 3. Capes, canes, readers, and pearls oh my! Thank you @EagleViewES for hosting @FCPS_ISD@MathematicsFcps
3 “As I would tell my students: Learning math is not just about numbers but the stories we tell ourselves about our capabilities, perseverance, and power to overcome.”
“Our beliefs about ourselves are shaped by the voices we hear, especially during our formative years. As educators, parents, and role models, we hold a responsibility in modeling these beliefs.”1
2 “Let’s champion a narrative where challenges are embraced as opportunities for growth, where the process of learning is celebrated more than the outcome, and where every child believes in their math potential.
@CubRunCousino @MathematicsFcps@NCTM Thanks for advocating for teachers and professional learning. NCTM tends to be in DC every 5 years. They have first timer grants that will pay for registration. One school asked their pta to help cover their registration fees.
Thankful for the opportunity to showcase the brilliance of primary math students engaging in rigorous mathematical tasks with the best co-presenters @WendyWall_Math & @KellyQHalpin#NCTMDC23
