Every day #ldnont individuals attend the Emergency Department for care via @MLPS911 and stay longer than necessary because they don't have the means to attend or get home on their own. Expanding @LTCLdnOnt service is an essential component of effective healthcare delivery.

This is the crux of it: in order to achieve #VisionZero and reduce vulnerable road user mortality #ldnont MUST look at the problem directly and abandon preconceived notions regarding traffic flow and speed. Design to slow traffic and reduce conflict, survival will follow.

Last fall I visited Helsinki, a city where crash deaths have fallen sharply (including a year without any ped/cyclist fatalities at all).

I asked an urban official what role technology has played in his city's safety success. His answer: "Zero. We simply slowed down cars."

The auto industry created the problems it is now purporting to intend to fix. Vehicles are too large, too fast, and require oversized infrastructure. The technology exists to achieve the solutions @bellachu10 is proposing, now we need the political will to implement them.

Instead of waiting for the auto industry to invent & sell robot cars, we could save lives now with speed limiters & geofencing (like on 60 lb scooters). We could shrink cars. We could slow them. We could require pedestrian protections. The automobile industry resists all of this.

(1/5) In a 4-month span between December to April, three pedestrians were killed along the same short stretch of Lougheed Hwy in Maple Ridge. We often hear from police that "speed was not a factor" so we took our radar gun out to Lougheed to see how fast drivers are going.

I’m pleased to report that a request for traffic mitigation at Adelaide & Victoria in #LdnOnt is complete, and staff will recommend the installation of a pedestrian signal. As a capital construction project it will take time to further analyze, design and construct.
