After a year of semi-shielding and three months of arguments with my GP, I FINALLY got the Rona vaccine yesterday. I ❤️ science but I do not ❤️ feeling like I've been run over today. That said the most painful part of the experience was still trying to leave the car park after 🤣

@nialltg We were rejected by 6 UK rescues because we wanted indoor cats & were honest about wanting kids in the next decade 😂. One rescue called me vain for requesting a young cat... I had just put my 20 yr old cat down after a long illness & daily meds & I just wanted a break from that!

@MGS_tweets Prospective PhDs can supplement studentship with PhD loan of approx. 6-11k a year UNLESS funding comes through a research council or another gov source and it covers writing up unlike many studentships. Typically, you do have to have lived in the UK for 3 years.

@MGS_tweets Sorry to hear this! Worth mentioning too that studentships are often an absurdly small amount of money. Even if you only worked 35 hrs a week (ha), it works out as significantly less than min. wage and you aren't eligible for benefits because gov considers you a fulltime student.

@DaniRabaiotti I have a lenovo ideapad which copes incredibly well with v large datasets in R. I think as long as it's got an i7 processor you'll probably be good. If you routinely run heavy tasks, especially in non AC'd rooms, you may want to invest in a cooling system.

I'm not saying that 20/21 have been rife with disappointment but the excitement of science twitter about the thylacine despite its improbability and then the disappointment when they look it up and it's a pademelon is a better analogy for the last year than we could've imagined
