Sustainable energy, food & politics🌍
Was Lib Dem PC for Exeter🔶
Listening. Caring. Environment. Promoted by Exeter Liberal Democrats at 35A Howell Rd, EX4 4LT
I'm honoured to receive over 10% of the vote from a standing start - coming within 5% of 2nd!
Thank you to #Exeter's 4,201 people who voted for me & to everyone for voting.
I look forward to continuing to push the government to be more liberal, progressive, and transformative.
Today the Prime Minister rejected our calls for electoral reform, despite a majority of people supporting it and MPs voting for our bill yesterday.
We need to restore trust in politics and make every vote count. Parliament should at least have the chance to consider our bill.
So to recap…
Bus fare cap ⬆️ 50%
Rail fares ⬆️ 4.6%
Rail cards ⬆️ by £5
Fuel duty… still frozen.
Gov talks of delivering on the environment yet undermines itself by failing to adequately tax our most polluting forms of transport & support the most sustainable. #Budget2024
Some life updates
Graduated from my part-time OU Global Development Master's. At times had to devote every spare (& unspare!) moment, so pleased. #OUFamily
I'm also thrilled to have started at @SunGiftSolar! Designing solar arrays, continuing to serve people of & around Exeter!
Lib Dems believe councils are crucial in unlocking communities' potential
But Labour @ExeterCouncil cut vital services eg. community grants, street cleansing & @ExeterCAB
Written to Exeter’s MPs for sustained rise in council funding tied to local need: https://t.co/4ubdGUpjDl
Let's make the #CANBill happen!
Passed its 1st reading today & has a broad coalition of support from all major parties. But both #Exeter's MPs (@steve_race & @David__Reed) are yet to back it.
You CAN make a difference! RT & email your MP to urge support: https://t.co/X1HIEnwhVu

A few weeks ago, I became a member of the Chagos APPG, Vice Chair of the APPG on Gibraltar and the Secretary of the Falklands APPG. It would be fair to say I have more than a passing interest in U.K. Overseas Territories and a fair bit of accumulated knowledge.
@DevonCC is consulting on improvements to four bus corridor areas in the city: https://t.co/1M6qmvJoBD
Better bus infrastructure not only improves the reliability of buses, it also improves blue light response times, taxi costs, and cycling safety.
@steve_race So you'll back the Climate & Nature Bill, right?
The one that your predecessor backed and faces up to the scale & nature of action required in response to the Climate Emergency.

Lib Dem leader Ed Davey asks the PM what advice he has for pensioners facing rising heating bills this winter
Keir Starmer says the government has taken “tough decisions” to “stabilise the economy”, but will put "all the support in that we can"

This site could serve so many much needed purposes - including hosting a market, performance venue, or social housing.
But Labour are taking steps to make it a car park.. despite the impending climate crisis & 6 within 500m with plenty spare capacity. 1/3

Huge peaceful demonstration in #Exeter today.
Shows how the vast vast majority of us are united against racism, Islamaphobia & the politics of hate & division.
Tomorrow, the people of #Exeter will come together to show where our collective values lie: united against racism, Islamaphobia, hate, violence, and the politics of division.
Everyone should have the right to live peacefully. Diversity is strength.
2024-07-23: King's Speech (Motion for an Address): Amendment (k)
The 84 MPs voting 'Aye' represented 9,908,248 voters.
The 380 MPs voting 'No' represented 9,216,704 voters.
Aye majority = 691,544
But result was No because seats don't match votes.
See ALT text.
People oppose renewable energy projects if don't see the benefits.
So let's legislate so people do:
⏩Clear framework for local discounts
⏩Promote community-ownership
⏩Reduce planning barriers for easier mixed-land use.
Get local communities on-board & costly barriers tumble.
Good news! @SouthWestWater now publish a live map of almost all their sewage discharges 🎉 helping us know how safe our rivers are at any given time.
Thank you all who signed my petition, building pressure to make this happen as rapidly as possible😊
