FRAUD ON TAP

The UK water industry is running the biggest legal scam in the country, and calling it a public service is the real joke.

Thames Water, Southern Water, Affinity Water, Yorkshire Water and Anglian Water are all getting ready to ban hosepipes this summer.

Most of the country could be under a ban by autumn. These are the same companies that have spent 37 years promising to fix leaking pipes while paying their bosses huge bonuses instead.

The former boss of Southern Water, Matthew Wright, has just been charged with cheating the water tests.

Prosecutors say his team changed the water flow before official checks so the company would pass tests it should have failed.

A judge called it "carefully planned and extensive fraud and dishonesty at a high level." He could go to prison for up to 10 years.

So imagine this. You get told off for watering your tomatoes. Meanwhile the man in charge of the water allegedly cheated on the tests that are supposed to keep it safe.

There are now 81 criminal investigations open against water companies in England.

That is the biggest crackdown this industry has ever seen. And your tap is still at risk of running dry.

The fix is simple. Prosecute the bosses. Fine the companies until it hurts. Take our water back.

Every other business in this country gets shut down for cheating on this scale.

Water companies get a hosepipe ban for you and a bonus for them.

The most abhorrent part in all of all of this is that Ofwat has just admitted that since 1994 when the sewage treatment regulations were introduced Welsh Water, like every other sewage company in the UK have been breaking the law.

That's 37 years of illegal activity, 37 years of incompetence, 37 years of failure, 37 years of the gross, violent, decimation of our rivers and beaches.

Where's the justice for them, where's the justice for bill players, where's the accountability, why aren't Ofwat's board now being prosecuted for misconduct in public office?

Since Thames Water is once again staring down a gun barrel, the £3 billion bailout it had runs out later this year, I thought it might be timely to remind us all of the “Economically illiterate”, cost govt comes up with to renationalise the water industry, you remember the £100 billion.

It is of course made up nonsense produced by a think tank in a report which was bought and paid for my United Utilities, Anglian Water, Severn Trent Water and South West Water.

By their calculations it would now cost £26,659,419,800 to nationalise Thames Water. 🤣🤣🤣

A tenant farmer in the Cairngorms says land that sold for £500 an acre a few years ago now goes for £5,000. He is being moved off ground his family has worked for generations, because he cannot outbid the people buying it. The buyers are corporations, and they have no intention of farming a single acre of it.

Here is how the trick works. A company keeps emitting carbon exactly as before. Same factories, same flights, same supply chain, same product. Then it buys a Scottish hillside, plants some trees, and announces to the world that it is now carbon neutral, or, if it is feeling brave, carbon negative. The emissions never fell. It simply bought a landscape to point at.

Take BrewDog. In 2020 it bought a 9,300-acre Highland estate, propped up with public grant money, and promised a million trees and the crown of the world's first carbon negative beer business, removing twice the carbon it emitted, forever. By 2023 roughly half of the 500,000 trees it had managed to plant were dead, killed by drought, with critics noting the planting was drying out the peat and releasing carbon of its own. The advertising regulator ruled its carbon-negative claims misleading. In 2024 it quietly dropped the badge and dismissed the entire carbon credit market as a flood of cheap schemes whose benefit was "questionable, maybe even non-existent." Then it sold the estate to a firm whose actual business is selling carbon offsets.

That is the whole model in one story. Public money in. Dead trees out. A green halo worn for four years and then dropped. The farmer who used to be on that land, gone. The hillside passed to a company that exists purely to sell other people the right to keep polluting.

This is no fringe case. In one recent year, half of every estate sold in Scotland went to investment funds, corporations and charitable trusts rather than anyone who would farm it. A third of the deals for plantable land are now done off-market, in secret, precisely so the local community never gets the chance to bid.

So this is what net zero looks like on the ground. A man who produced food is priced out of his own glen. A corporation that produced emissions buys the glen, calls itself a force for good, and sells the carbon. The land stops feeding anyone. Nobody's emissions actually went down by a gram.

The food was real. The farmer was real. The carbon saving is a line in a slide deck.

And we have somehow decided the villain in all this is the man with the sheep.
