#SanctuaryOnTheMoon will place an archive of humanity on the surface of the Moon by 2030 🌕

In partnership with @UNESCO and selected by @NASA, this project will send 24 discs containing over 100 billion micropixels of data, a vast repository of knowledge spanning art, #WorldHeritage, science and even human DNA. A vault capturing who we are and bringing us together as one.

#UNESCO is appalled by the attack on a school in Shukeiri, Sudan, where a drone strike reportedly killed schoolgirls and teachers. Educational institutions are protected spaces under international humanitarian law.
They should never be targeted, attacked, or repurposed for military use. In accordance with its mandate and with United Nations Security Council Resolution 2601 (2021), @UNESCO recalls the obligations of all parties to protect schools, students, and education personnel.

The first Virtual Meeting of the @UN Secretary-General’s Independent International Scientific Panel on AI marked an important step forward. I am pleased that @UNESCO contributes to this effort as part of the Panel’s Secretariat.

Our exchanges clearly reaffirmed the urgent need for science-based, evidence-driven AI governance — to ensure that AI serves people, and not the other way around.

UNESCO has been at the forefront of global discussions on AI, leading to the adoption of the 2021 Recommendation on the Ethics of Artificial Intelligence — to date, the only global standard-setting instrument in this field.

Encouraged by the diversity of this Panel, bringing together voices from across disciplines, regions and perspectives to help shape AI for the common good. #ForThePeople

At the invitation of President @CyrilRamaphosa, @UNESCO Director-General Khaled El-Enany attended the @g20org Leaders’ Summit in South Africa, bringing #UNESCO’s voice and solutions to the table.

During the Summit, he met with world leaders and heads of development banks and specialized agencies to strengthen cooperation in education, science, innovation, culture and communication.
