1/4 — Refuting Israel’s claims and lies about its killing of Palestinian journalists

Israel never fails to make us laugh despite the bitterness of Palestinian reality. Every time it tries to falsify facts and employ cheap propaganda, it falls into its own contradictions and exposes its own narrative.

Tonight, as part of an ongoing propaganda campaign to whitewash its crimes, the Israeli army spokesperson claimed that dozens of Palestinian journalists killed by Israel had worked for Palestinian factions.

To substantiate this claim, he published only ten photos of journalists whom Palestinian factions had mourned as members, then presented this as misleading evidence that the remaining names on his list were fighters. He ignored a simple fact every Palestinian knows: some journalists had previously worked for media institutions or offices affiliated with factions, before devoting themselves to journalism, particularly after the genocide began.

The truth is that Israel placed many names on its lists merely because members of their families were affiliated with factions, or because they had worked for media outlets linked to them. In other cases, international investigations exposed the falsity of Israeli claims against journalists such as Hamza Al-Dahdouh, Ahmed Al-Louh and Mustafa Abu Thuraya. Israel was even proven to have fabricated documents to accuse other journalists, most notably the late Anas Al-Sharif, who was live on air around the clock, with the entire world witnessing his purely journalistic work.

The world also witnessed dozens of journalists being targeted while doing their jobs live on air. We need only recall the bombing of Nasser Hospital and the killing of journalists, some of whom Israel later listed as fighters.

We are witnessing a brazen attempt to whitewash Israel’s image by accusing its victims. Israel even weaponizes Gaza’s social customs against them. In Palestinian culture, victims—including children—are mourned with expressions such as “the heroic martyr,” and commemorative designs are published honoring their memory. This is a social and cultural practice in a society living under occupation and oppression. It does not, in itself, constitute evidence of involvement in any military activity; rather, it expresses pride in the deceased and grief over their loss.

Moreover, many of the journalists Israel accuses today had previously been arrested and interrogated specifically about their journalistic work, then released. Among them was the late Ismail Al-Ghoul.

The irony is that this happens while Israeli journalists accompany army forces inside Gaza, with some documenting themselves alongside troops during military operations, without their mere presence with the army being considered sufficient grounds to strip them of their journalistic status or classify them as fighters.

As usual, and as Israel has done before, it accused the paramedics it executed in Rafah of being fighters, only for the falsity of its claims to be exposed after it was unable to refute a video released by the Palestinian Red Crescent.

The killer accuses the victim, while the real killer wears a press helmet.

One final point: Israel’s ban on international journalists entering Gaza undermines its claims from the outset. Blocking independent press from a conflict zone is itself an attack on press freedom—restricting access to the truth and allowing one side to control the narrative.
