The C-5 Galaxy has its "birthday today" - On March 2 1968, the first C-5A (serial number 66-8303) was rolled out of the manufacturing plant in Marietta, Georgia.
Many years later, it remains one of the largest military aircraft in the world and is still in service. All 52 in-service have been upgraded to the C-5M Super Galaxy with new engines and modernized avionics designed to extend its service life to 2040 and beyond.
