Hot take 🧵 on the @anacondainc academic licensing fiasco...
Anaconda provides a huge amount of value to large, well-funded academic research institutions who are absolutely fine with paying big license fees to Mathworks, Intel, etc. for software.

Wow, @ProjectJupyter is the winner of the White House OSTP "Technical Advancement to Enable Open Science" category.
Amazing to see recognition of the project at a national level! Makes me proud of the ecosystem of interconnected tools we've built.

I love the vision that @colliand shares around the need for participatory open science. Citizens have a right to both the tools and the skills to participate in knowledge creation. This is an inspiration for @2i2c_org 's approach to open infrastructure.

I recently gave a talk about 2i2c for the @PSLmodels team! It covers the historical context behind 2i2c, how we need more services that are both *open* and *excellent*, and how @2i2c_org is trying to accomplish both. Check it out!

Our Partnerships Lead, Jim Colliander, recently gave a talk about why it's critical to protect Digital Public Goods and services that support it, and how 2i2c is trying to achieve this through the Right to Replicate and Open Infrastructure.

We're excited to show off a new brand and design framework for 2i2c! We think this style is more distinctive and flexible for highlighting 2i2c's mission and impact.

This resonates strongly with an approach that @2i2c_org takes towards open infrastructure services.
We call it the Right to Replicate: communities should retain the right to replicate and manage their infrastructure on their own.
The Right to Replicate is one of the pillars of 2i2c's mission and strategy. Check out the slides from @drsarahlgibson's recent talk about "Embedding a Right to Replicate in RSE practices"

@betolink True! There’s definitely a hold over from ‘downloaded the data locally’ as an anachronistic way of working. My guess people gain comfort from having a file system-like way of looking at data.
🍎🚀 With @openlifesci, @2i2c_org and the support of @NASA, we join the initiative to transform science and technology to open practices.
How did we get here? What does it represent? How will we work? We tell you more in this blog post 👇.
