Being a dev today using frontier AI feels like I'm playing Watson to Sherlock Holmes. I just stand back and go "my word holmes how did you deduce that" and occasionally stop him from getting shot
Rob a gas station for $200: 10 year prison sentence
Orchestrate wide-scale cyber security breaches and a fake news media campaign to pressure the Feds into killing your competitors and propping up your multi-trillion valuation ahead of an IPO: no problem
@BradSherman The problem here congressman is your very post and tone. you are so worried about the image of another country. one that is sucking your country dry. So much energy worrying about the parasite feeding off the country whose people you are supposed to represent.
@anon17194039318 to mimic spinal reflexes and/or sensory memory I envision the need for physical mechanic sensors with deterministic interpreters (not necessarily in humanoid format like many would think but this could be a mechanical core that works with any model.
my dad was born in a stone hut on a farm in morocco and grinded his way to america
i was raised in the bay area and endgame to me is to be able to retire peacefully on a farm in morocco
“Yo I just want to let you know you’ll have to leave the tour because you saying ‘end the Holocaust’ has offended the small group of rich and powerful Nazis I’ve spoken to. I am neutral by the way.”
It’s time to investigate the AI labs for antitrust, price fixing, and privacy violations.
If they want to decelerate AI development we might as well help them.
@TrevorJAtkinson@ylecun@PessimistsArc Lastly - the more dangerous a technology is the more important we make accessible. Wide access is the only effective dampener of said danger.
@TrevorJAtkinson@ylecun@PessimistsArc i dont think these companies are focused on safety as they claim - they are focused on a negative message for a specific objective. If they pumped a positive message at the same rate the overall sentiment would be different
@TrevorJAtkinson@ylecun@PessimistsArc 2. I don’t think yann’s take is bullshit - it is clear that monopoly is aim #1 - else get the oligopoly. This has always been the story. I think fundamentally the core of the argument here is you cannot make math illegal especially when a competing economy isn’t stopping.
@TrevorJAtkinson@ylecun@PessimistsArc 1. About the “yolo meth” point: the question here is - should you allow people to use ai that can help them learn how to synthesize chemical compounds? The answer has to be YES always! If you make drugs illegally today with/out ai you are subject to the same legal process
@TrevorJAtkinson@ylecun@PessimistsArc - and assuming that that is what we will be up to with accessible ai to all on average is very short sighted and sounds uninformed - i rather think of all the breakthroughs we can reach at full speed and wider access.
@TrevorJAtkinson@ylecun@PessimistsArc You can make a bomb or meth anytime you want without llms. The positives of ai will only outweigh the potential negative via wide access not otherwise.
It’s an astounding amount of hypocrisy from the labs to have gotten their initial training data in the way that they did, burning it as a source for others with how much bot protection now exists, and then trying to lift the ladder up after them by preventing distillation
i don't see any solution to the ai risk problem than mass accessibility to ai
if they're going to be around potentially causing damage then everyone needs to have ai defending them
this is how cyber security works, we rely on the fact that there's more good guys than bad
Yea dawg feudalism dawg its for your safety dawg intelligence too dangerous dawg. Faster inference? Sheesh - end or the world dawg - stackoverflow and more effort is better dawg - chinese model? Free? No dawg! Fuck you
