Principal of Memar-e-Nau Academy in Gwadar, Abdul Haq Baloch, Found Dead After Enforced Disappearance

Abdul Haq Baloch, the principal of Memar-e-Nau Academy in Gwadar and the younger brother of forcibly disappeared Baloch National Movement (BNM) leader Ramzan Baloch, has been found dead after months of enforced disappearance.

Abdul Haq was abducted by the Pakistani military in Gwadar in February, after which he was subjected to enforced disappearance. Today, along with two others, his body, bearing visible signs of torture, was recovered from the Panwan area of Jewani district Gwadar.

He was killed in custody and his body was dumped.

Abdul Haq Baloch held a Master’s degree in Computer Science from the University of Balochistan. He established Memar-e-Nau Academy in Mashkay to provide education to local children. However, the Pakistani military forcibly shut down the school.

Undeterred, he later founded another Memar-e-Nau Academy in Gwadar, where he continued educating children. In February, he was abducted by the Pakistani military and remained forcibly disappeared until his body was recovered.

His elder brother, BNM leader Ramzan Baloch, was also forcibly disappeared on July 25, 2009. He was abducted from Zero Point in Uthal while traveling from Mashkay to Gwadar and has remained missing ever since. He is held in undisclosed detention facilities operated by the Pakistani military.

The killing of Abdul Haq Baloch is part of a broader pattern in which educators, intellectuals, and members of civil society in Balochistan have been targeted. Previously, Zahid Askani, the head of a private school in Gwadar, was also killed by state agencies.

More recently, Baloch professor Ghamkhwar Hayat was likewise killed. These incidents underscore the grave risks faced by those dedicated to education and public service in Balochistan.

No segment of society in Balochistan is safe. Teachers, students, lawyers, journalists, doctors, and human rights defenders all remain vulnerable to enforced disappearances, extrajudicial killings, arbitrary detention, and other serious human rights violations.

The widespread practice of enforced disappearances, custodial torture, and extrajudicial killings in Balochistan constitutes a serious violation of international human rights law.

We call upon the United Nations, international human rights organizations, and all relevant national and international bodies to take urgent notice of the ongoing human rights crisis in Balochistan, ensure independent, impartial, and transparent investigations into the killing of Abdul Haq Baloch and other cases of enforced disappearance and extrajudicial execution, and hold those responsible accountable.

The Baloch Yakjehti Committee (BYC) announces the upcoming publication of A Critical Study of Nation as Network, authored by Dr. Sabiha Baloch.

Published by Bramsh Publications, the literature department of BYC, this booklet offers a critical engagement with Nation as Network by Victoria Bernal. It explores the book's central arguments on nationhood, diaspora, citizenship, digital politics, and state power, while examining how digital technologies have reshaped political communities and transnational identities in the contemporary world.

Drawing on Bernal's ethnographic study of Eritrea and its diaspora, the booklet introduces readers to key concepts such as "sacrificial citizenship" and "infopolitics," and reflects on their broader significance for understanding nationalism, political participation, and resistance in the digital age.

This publication is intended to make contemporary political thought more accessible to readers interested in critical theory, national movements, and the changing relationship between states, societies, and digital networks.

Another brave Baloch woman, Sayad Bibi, has been forcibly abducted and disappeared by Pakistani forces, adding yet another name to the ever-growing list of victims of enforced disappearance in Balochistan.

Silence in the face of these disappearances only emboldens the perpetrators. The international community, the United Nations, and human rights organizations must urgently take notice and press Pakistan to end the practice of enforced disappearances.

آج منگل کی رات تقریباً 9:30 بجے سی ٹی ڈی اہلکاروں نے سید بی بی بلوچ کی گھر کی چادر و چاردیواری کی پامالی کرکے انہیں غیر قانونی طور پر گرفتار کرکے اپنے ساتھ لے گئے۔ حالانکہ گزشتہ چار ماہ سے ان کا نام فورتھ شیڈول میں شامل ہے، جس کے باعث وہ ہر ہفتے باقاعدگی سے سی ٹی ڈی کے دفتر میں پیشی دیتے ہیں۔

گزشتہ روز بلوچ یکجہتی کمیٹی کی جانب سے تربت میں احتجاج کا اعلان کیے جانے کے بعد سی ٹی ڈی اہلکار مسلسل سید بی بی بلوچ کو فون کر کے ہراساں کرتے رہے۔

فورتھ شیڈول انسدادِ دہشت گردی کے قانون کا حصہ ہے، لیکن بلوچستان میں اس قانون کو سیاسی کارکنوں، طلبہ، اساتذہ، عام شہریوں اور حتیٰ کہ نابالغ بچوں کو ہراساں کرنے اور ان کی نقل و حرکت محدود کرنے کے لیے استعمال کیا جا رہا ہے۔ اس قانون کے باعث متعدد طلبہ اپنی تعلیم جاری رکھنے سے بھی محروم ہو چکے ہیں، جبکہ عوام مسلسل ذہنی دباؤ اور عدم تحفظ کا شکار ہیں۔ جب بھی کسی شہر میں احتجاج کا اعلان ہوتا ہے، فورتھ شیڈول میں شامل افراد کو سی ٹی ڈی دفاتر میں طلب کر کے ہراساں کیا جاتا ہے۔

سید بی بی شریف کو اس وقت ویمن پولیس تھانہ تربت میں رکھا گیا ہے اور بتایا گیا ہے کہ احتجاج ختم ہونے کے بعد انہیں رہا کر دیا جائے گا۔ یہ طرزِ عمل جابرانہ ہے۔

بلوچ یکجہتی کمیٹی بین الاقوامی انسانی حقوق کی تنظیموں سے اپیل کرتی ہے کہ وہ اس غیر قانونی اقدام کا نوٹس لیں، سید بی بی شریف کی فوری رہائی کے لیے آواز اٹھائیں، اور پاکستان میں سیاسی کارکنوں کے خلاف جاری جبر، شہری آزادیوں پر قدغن اور فسطائی طرزِ حکمرانی کے خلاف مؤثر کردار ادا کریں۔

The history of the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) in Balochistan is marked by oppression, repression, and the genocide of the Baloch people. During the 1970s, under the leadership of the party’s founder, Zulfikar Ali Bhutto, a large-scale military operation was launched in Balochistan. Thousands of Baloch were killed, countless political leaders and activists were imprisoned, and Balochistan was subjected to widespread state violence.

This was not an isolated episode. For more than five decades, these policies have continued in different forms. Throughout this period, the Pakistan Peoples Party has stood alongside the Pakistani state and has played a significant role in sustaining the campaign of repression, grave human rights violations, and the ongoing genocide of the Baloch people.

When the PPP returned to power in 2008, it installed a puppet government in Balochistan. During this period, death squads and the Pakistani military were given free rein to operate, while the policy of enforced disappearances and “Kill and Dump” became systematic.

Between 2008 and 2013, hundreds of mutilated bodies of forcibly disappeared Baloch were recovered from deserted areas, thousands of people were subjected to enforced disappearance.

Today, the same policies continue with even greater intensity. Enforced disappearances, extrajudicial killings, arbitrary arrests of political activists, restrictions on freedom of expression, and attempts to silence the Baloch national voice remain ongoing. The current puppet government in Balochistan, led by the Pakistan Peoples Party, continues to implement these state policies.

The recent imprisonment of the leadership of the Baloch Yakjehti Committee (BYC), including Dr. Mahrang Baloch and her colleagues, as well as the late-night raid on the home of prominent human rights defender Sammi Deen Baloch, the intimidation of his family, and attempts to fabricate criminal cases, are further manifestations of this continuing campaign of repression.

The policies initiated under Zulfikar Ali Bhutto continued during the presidency of Asif Ali Zardari @AAliZardari , and today, under the leadership of Bilawal Bhutto Zardari @BBhuttoZardari , the Pakistan Peoples Party remains a partner in the Pakistani state’s campaign against the Baloch nation.

Pakistan presents itself as the “Islamic Republic of Pakistan,” yet for the Baloch, Pashtuns, Sindhis, Kashmiris, and other oppressed nations, there is neither democracy nor justice. Their political rights, national identity, and fundamental freedoms continue to be denied.

This reality underscores the urgent need for these oppressed nations to unite in their struggle for freedom, justice, and the right to determine their own future.

میں متعدد بار یہ واضح کر چکی ہوں کہ اگر میرے خلاف کوئی مقدمہ ہے تو میں اسے قانونی فورمز پر سامنا کرنے کے لیے تیار ہوں۔ تاہم ایک پُرامن انسانی حقوق کے کارکن کے گھر پر رات کے اندھیرے میں دھاوا بولنا، ہمسایوں کو تشدد اور دھمکیوں کے ذریعے خوفزدہ کرنا، اور میرے خاندان کو ہراساں کرنا اس بات کی نشاندہی کرتا ہے کہ مقصد قانون کا نفاذ نہیں بلکہ مجھے اور میرے اہلِ خانہ کو ڈرانا اور خاموش کرانا ہے۔

The Baloch National Movement (BNM) organized a protest rally in Hannover, Germany, to strongly condemn the life imprisonment sentences handed down to Baloch Yakjehti Committee (BYC) leaders Dr. Mahrang Baloch and Sibghatullah Baloch. The demonstration also denounced the baseless judicial proceedings initiated against Baloch Students Organization (BSO) Chairman Balach Qadir, along with several other student leaders and political activists.

A diverse lineup of activists and leaders addressed the gathering. Speakers included BNM Germany Chapter President Asghar Baloch, former President Shar Hassan, former BNM Germany Vice President Safia Baloch, Baloch Republican Party (BRP) member Hammad Kurd, Pashtun Tahafuz Movement (PTM) representative Faisal Khan, BNM members Akbar Ali and Sara Umair, as well as BNM sympathizers Hira Bano and Murad Baloch.

Addressing the protesters, the speakers highlighted that this systemic oppression has persisted since Pakistan's forceful occupation of Balochistan in 1948. They declared that such atrocities will never silence the voice of the Baloch nation, stressing that Balochistan has been deliberately isolated and continuously denied justice.

The speakers further noted that the Pakistani state is marginalizing the Baloch nation in every conceivable manner. They argued that, with the backing of certain state-sponsored elements, the space for legitimate political activism in Balochistan is being systematically restricted.

In their concluding remarks, the speakers emphasized that incarcerating BYC leaders and activists merely for demanding accountability and basic human rights is a blatant violation of international human rights standards. They appealed to international organizations and the global community to take notice of the deteriorating situation and play an impartial role in resolving the crisis.
