Another building block we use: chainfold

chainfold is a Rust library to deal with some of the inconveniences that come with handling on-chain events, especially reconciling after encountering a reorg.

Instead of forcing you to use a specific runtime, a storage backend, or an arbitrary "safe" block height that can be considered finalized, chainfold puts these batteries in your hands, that you can tune according to your specific usecase.

The design is simple enough: process an event, fold it into your local state, and when the block is finalized, persist the fold to storage, all while being able to roll back to a point that the data was known to be canonical.

We built this library to enable easier legacy system integration, where codebases cannot use modern languages / libraries that are well maintained, and the developers end up having to rebuild most of these components themselves.

a year ago, our founders had just met at @JoinEdgeCity Patagonia. One from Argentina, one from Malaysia, both looking for a problem in DeFi worth solving.

they arrived at Devcon Buenos Aires with an idea and a lot of questions. at the @1inch booth they found the missing piece, and that conversation turned the idea into a company.

our third cofounder joined soon after, through a @Uniswap incubator.

that's what Devcon does. you come for the talks and leave with the people you end up building with.

this year Devcon is in Mumbai, and we're coming back as builders.

In the weeks before, we're running a hacker house at Edge City Goa with DeFi builders from the region. what we build there, we launch at Devcon, and we close it out at @ETHGlobal Mumbai.

I dislike the recent trend of people who clearly continue to believe >80% of the core effective altruist beliefs disavow EA and say "oh we're definitely not that, we're [rebrand]" purely strategically, purely because they sense that dunking on EA is "cool" now.

It's much more honorable to just come out and say "yes, that was our intellectual upbringing and those continue to be our core values, and also here are specific points where we disagree, and here's our argument for why we think for those specific points are the subset of EA that causes what you perceive to be the problem with the whole thing".

And so with that I will say:

Yes, effective altruism was a significant part of my intellectual upbringing and its core values of care for others, cosmopolitanism and rigor around effective resource allocation continue to be very important to me.
