I resigned from Anthropic today. I spent the last three years doing pretraining research at both OpenAI and Anthropic. Neither company is acting responsibly. They are racing straight to self-improving superintelligence and gambling with our lives. More thoughts below.
Agency > Intelligence
I had this intuitively wrong for decades, I think due to a pervasive cultural veneration of intelligence, various entertainment/media, obsession with IQ etc. Agency is significantly more powerful and significantly more scarce. Are you hiring for agency? Are we educating for agency? Are you acting as if you had 10X agency?
Grok explanation is ~close:
“Agency, as a personality trait, refers to an individual's capacity to take initiative, make decisions, and exert control over their actions and environment. It’s about being proactive rather than reactive—someone with high agency doesn’t just let life happen to them; they shape it. Think of it as a blend of self-efficacy, determination, and a sense of ownership over one’s path.
People with strong agency tend to set goals and pursue them with confidence, even in the face of obstacles. They’re the type to say, “I’ll figure it out,” and then actually do it. On the flip side, someone low in agency might feel more like a passenger in their own life, waiting for external forces—like luck, other people, or circumstances—to dictate what happens next.
It’s not quite the same as assertiveness or ambition, though it can overlap. Agency is quieter, more internal—it’s the belief that you *can* act, paired with the will to follow through. Psychologists often tie it to concepts like locus of control: high-agency folks lean toward an internal locus, feeling they steer their fate, while low-agency folks might lean external, seeing life as something that happens *to* them.”
I can't stop thinking about that the fact that the next 18 months are likely to bring a level of tech wealth creation that the world has never seen—and that is saying a lot.
It would be a reasonable bet that during that time we will have the IPOs of SpaceX, OpenAI, Anthropic, Anduril and more, unleashing a level of wealth, liquidity (and power) across the tech community that is going to have ripple effects far beyond what we can imagine today.

$NVDA - NVIDIA CEO: OPENAI DEAL IS LARGEST COMPUTING PROJECT EVER
Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang called the OpenAI partnership “the largest computing project in history,” citing soaring demand from ChatGPT. He said the effort will build AI infrastructure to move technology from labs to the real world, marking the start of an “AI industrial revolution.”
“The disease of our times is that we live on the surface. We’re like the Platte River, a mile wide and an inch deep. I always say, 'If you want to become a billionaire, invent something that will allow people to indulge their own Resistance.' Somebody did invent it. It’s called the Internet. Social media. That wonderland where we can flit from one superficial, jerkoff distraction to another, always remaining on the surface, never going deeper than an inch. Real work and real satisfaction come from the opposite of what the web provides. They come from going deep into something—the book you’re writing, the album, the movie—and staying there for a long, long time.”

People will constantly attack you in life. One of their main weapons will be to instill in you doubts about yourself – your worth, your abilities, your potential.
They will often disguise this as their objective opinion, but invariably it has a political purpose – they want to keep you down.

Introducing MARS, the first Personal AI Robot.
In technology, getting to the future we want starts with building it together.
This is why we designed Mars. Inspired by early PCs, Mars is a powerful, complete, extendable robot.
It runs BASIC, an open embodied AI agent we created for you to program with code, demonstrations, and prompts. This allows Mars to perform complex long-horizon tasks involving spatial memory, reasoning, manipulation and navigation.

It just keeps getting worse.
Since “Liberation Day” in April, the US has lost 42,000 manufacturing jobs.
For 2025 overall, the sector is now down 78,000 jobs.
Liberation Day was supposed to bring manufacturing back. Instead, the numbers show the opposite, steady losses month after month.
