NEW | Peru’s technical evaluation committee has recommended South Korea’s K2 Black Panther as the preferred option for the Army’s next main battle tank, ahead of the Leopard 2A6, M1 Abrams and China’s VT-4.
The wider modernization requirement could eventually reach 150 tanks, replacing Peru’s ageing T-55 and AMX-13 fleets.
Peru and South Korea already have a framework covering an initial 54 K2 tanks and 141 K808 armored vehicles. Several demonstration vehicles arrived at Callao in July, while Hyundai Rotem’s proposal includes new assembly capacity and technology transfer in Peru.

🚨🇺🇦✈️🔥 BREAKING | Ukraine has scored another major hit against Russia's military aviation. Operators from the Security Service of Ukraine (SBU) carried out a successful kamikaze drone strike on Khanskaya Air Base in Russia's Maykop district, inflicting significant losses on the airfield.
According to the reported battle damage assessment, the attack destroyed two Su-35 multirole fighter jets, two L-39 trainer aircraft, a fuel storage facility, and additional airbase infrastructure.
The strike is another example of Ukraine's expanding long-range drone campaign, increasingly targeting high-value military airfields deep inside Russia. Destroying modern combat aircraft and critical fuel infrastructure not only reduces Russia's operational capabilities but also forces Moscow to divert additional air defense assets away from the front line to protect strategic bases in the rear.

Excelente nota de Alejo Marchessini, en la cual nos informa que el CETO determinó al K2 como la opción preferible. El tema sigue siendo presupuestario, y es obvio que la anterior administración no iba a dar inicio al programa; veremos en qué termina.

Petraeus: The death zone in Ukraine extends 35 kilometers on either side of the front lines — defined by drone battery life. Tanks can't survive. Armored vehicles can't survive. Nothing can.
Neither side even drives vehicles anymore. Russians keep trying and keep proving it.
Petraeus: No trenches — drones fly through. Soldiers in survivability positions hundreds of meters apart, not mutually supporting. Resupplied by ground robots.
Commanders can't visit the front line. Soldiers stay 60+ days. In urban areas, some couldn't be extracted for months.
Petraeus: Russian advances mean individual soldiers running forward trying to dig in. Drone units pick them up immediately, cycle surveillance drones, then FPV attack drones arrive.
You see them hitting around the soldier in the woods until one connects. It doesn't end well.
Petraeus: Ukraine is about to isolate Crimea. Gasoline so short they won't sell it to civilians. Tourists who came for beaches are trying to get home any way they can.
Kerch Bridge rail no longer works. Ferries knocked out. Land bridges destroyed. Pontoon bridges now targeted.
Petraeus: Ukraine took down Russia's air defenses steadily. Russia pulls them to Moscow — vulnerabilities open everywhere else. Moscow refinery hit three nights running, out at least six months.
They're going after fuel storage, refineries, gas lines from Siberia to the west.
Petraeus: Real prospect now that Putin might need a cessation of hostilities himself. Oil sanctions reimposed, national welfare fund running out of money.
Crimea isolated, front lines cut off, economy crushed — all of this could force Putin to recognize he should end this war.
