"from gojoseon to modern day, we wanted to convey k-heritage in a way 𝗼𝗻𝗹𝘆 𝗦𝗞𝗭 𝗰𝗼𝘂𝗹𝗱. we expressed the idea that light and darkness coexist in every history through the taegeuk symbol of the yin and yang"
the four guardian beats in korean mythology, this concept has layers and connections to previous comebacks and I’m obsessed (just my own silly theory!)
🐢🐍hyeonmu (black tortoise and serpent): represents winter and nautical north, symbolic for wisdom and longevity
🐉cheongnyong (azure dragon): represents spring and nautical east, symbolic for new beginnings and royal authority
🐅baekho (white tiger): represents autumn and nautical west, symbolic for protection and justice; in korean folklore, a yellow tiger must live hundreds of years and earn spiritual enlightenment before turning white (which is why leeknow is in white, meditating in front of a yellow tiger)
🦚jjujak (vermillion bird): represents summer and nautical south, resembles a phoenix, symbolic for passion and good fortune
The repeating Hangul letters appear to be in the traditional 가갸거겨 sequence. Arranging Hangul in circular patterns is reminiscent of Buddhist inscription/mandala motifs and ties together Korean language, history, and spirituality
Really fun history of trinkets holding tap-to-pay chips from East Asia first. Cashapp is sitting on a huge collectible thing here. Taiwan has tons of these trinkets with payment chips inside.
SOMEONE TURNED THE IPHONE DYNAMIC ISLAND INTO A WORKING POLAROID CAMERA
the whole thing lives in your dynamic island.
> drag the island down to open the camera
> tap to snap, then it morphs and ejects the photo out of the slot
> the pic slowly develops like a real polaroid, and you shake your phone to reveal it faster
> every sound and interaction is mapped to haptics, so you feel each step
> fully native swift, and he spent a month keeping the whole app under 5mb
its called pico cam and its pure skeuomorphism done right
absolutely insane what you can do with codex now
In 1996, Nintendo was seemingly very fond of a single particular stock photo of the sky, so that it ended up on the cartridge artwork of three different games released in that year: Super Mario 64, Mario Kart 64, and Pilotwings 64.
I created a new generative typeface that simulates typography being woven together. You can play with it as if it’s real strands of thread 🧵🪡
I initially designed this for an exhibition all about textiles but excited to see what else I can do with this.
