The video shows Black deportees in restraints being escorted by immigration officers, set to a celebratory soundtrack, while DHS threatens roughly 350,000 former TPS holders to “LEAVE IMMEDIATELY or be DEPORTED.” Haiti’s TPS designation, first established after the 2010 earthquake, was terminated July 27 after the Supreme Court cleared the way for the Trump administration’s move.

Reichlin-Melnick noted that TPS holders had been living and working legally and paying taxes. TPS recipients are barred from most major federal assistance programs, including SNAP, TANF, SSI and regular Medicaid, despite paying federal, state and local taxes that support those systems.

The administration is deporting Haitians even as the State Department maintains its highest-level “Do Not Travel” warning for Haiti. Gangs control much of Port-au-Prince, nearly 1.5 million people have been displaced this year, and a gang attack this week killed 47 people and kidnapped more than 50, according to the AP.

Athena Rayburn, executive director of the Association of International Development Agencies, which represents more than 100 humanitarian and development NGOs operating in the occupied Palestinian territory, detailed Israel’s sweeping restrictions on aid during a UN Security Council briefing Wednesday.
