Penultimate event of the day at #UNGA79 was on 'Strengthening #HealthDataGovernance in the #Digital Age', organised by @Trans4m_Health.
Key takeaways:
👉🏽 #HDG is a personal & community rights issue—#youngpeople demand consent & privacy, while #leadership at regional & national levels is crucial for #digitalinclusion & #dataprotection.
👉🏽 We need to move from #policy to action, building #infrastructure that ensures equitable access & safeguards data use. #HealthData #GlobalHealth"
We had a successful #UNGA79 side event during the #ScienceSummit, urging governments to prioritize a global #HDG framework rooted in equity and rights-based principles. Strengthening data governance systems globally is key to making Health system human-centered @_shannonthom

With support from @FondationBotnar, we embody this at every level, from our own membership to youth-led organizations, to individual youth advocates across the globe.”

The federal government's approach to #FoodInsecurity so far has been funding the expansion of local food charity. Doing so is enshrining a two-tiered food system. This is far from the dignity emphasized in their poverty reduction strategy.

We still struggle with data governance ➡️Policy conversations are often framed around value extraction or the monetization of data, often forgetting the societal impact and benefits of data-sharing & use.

Stakeholders have an opportunity to take decisive action to champion women's rights & reproductive justice by tackling one of the most daunting women's health threats facing the globe, & putting digital privacy, particularly with respect to women's health into law.

Basement apartments, tiny homes and 2 bedroom condos aren’t gonna cut it folks. Been saying this for several years now. I’m tired of my friends leaving for the house they want at the price they can afford and willingness to commute or work hybrid/online easily now. When young people leave they take their skill set with them, their local volunteerism, charitable giving and more. Cities can be attractive all they want with parks, trails, amenities and so on…but if we don’t balance it with providing housing for families, it’s all for nothing. #HousingCrisis
In light of Loblaw's inept efforts on social media to justify its super-sized inflation-fueling profits, this is an opportune time to remind shoppers of four crucial economic facts regarding supermarket profitability: 🧵https://t.co/P5iyQNFeI9 #cdnecon /2
I do not envy anyone who is still volunteering to offer insights to the public re: COVID, but for those who do, the responsibility should be taken seriously. Rather than doubling down,I think it is always valuable to reflect on ways to improve
@BogochIsaac - thanks!
Perhaps a clearer and more helpful message would simply be that mask wearing reduces individual risk of infection & transmission, and helps to blunt population level waves. (1/n)
2/ It is important to be honest about what masks (or any other intervention) will do/not do. Thats how you build public trust (currently shattered in many places) & improve adherence.
COVID is not going away. We have the tools to create safer indoor settings (see pinned tweet).
Rebuilding public trust and modelling effective PH communication requires not only honesty (of course), but consideration of possibility for misinterpretation and consequent efforts to highlight clear and actionable takeaway messages. (4/n)
Not knowing the endpoint doesn’t justify inaction. Nor do fallacious arguments made by credentialed experts on national media platforms who without question know what they’re doing when they’re crafting their messaging. /end
