Overall, skin recovery is a trajectory-based, host–microbiome coupled process—not a simple return to baseline. [8/8]

Excited to share our latest preprint on host–microbiome interactions in skin recovery following barrier disruption.

Human skin—the body’s largest organ—is constantly exposed to insults, yet how it recovers remains poorly understood. [1/8]

Strikingly, these trajectories and other microbial factors are tightly linked to recovery speed and host outcomes, emphasizing the key role of host–microbiome interactions in recovery. [7/8]
Our study developing a skin metatranscriptomics protocol is now out in @NatureBiotech!
We finally have the ability to study microbial activity on skin and identify key functional genes playing a role in diseases.

Skin #metatranscriptomics could be transformational in a way not seen in gut/oral studies as
1) Defined sampling can provide in vivo relevant insights
2) Microbial mRNA is dominant, but human mRNA is also detected

We’re super stoked to share the results of our Asian Skin Microbiome Program! 🌟 After several years of hard work and dedication, optimizing experimental parameters, and systematically generating data, we've built a massive dataset! Do give it a read here: https://t.co/PAfJsmmzkY
Super thrilled to share our labor of love from the Asian Skin Microbiome Program! Collected >3,500 skin samples, built metagenomic libraries w/ >70 billion reads and >10TB of data to study population heterogeneity in skin microbiome (200 adults, 18 sites) https://t.co/ZylbJMpvpw
Did you know the secret to a vibrant old age might be living right inside you?🤔
A study from @astar_gis led by @NiranjanTW, @aarthiravikrish, @indrikwijaya, reveals how our gut microbes 🦠 play a crucial role in healthy aging! Learn how these tiny neighbours can keep our golden years shining.✨

Tech Alert! 🚀🧬 We can now determine the sequence of DNA with non-canonical bases in a direct and high-throughput manner with Nanopore sequencing. Check out our preprint for details: https://t.co/mSOSzubouc
A new study conducted by scientists @NiranjanTW@aarthiravikrish from @astar_gis, in collaboration with researchers from @astar_SIgN, A*STAR Institute for Human Development and Potential (A*STAR IHDP) and @NUSingapore has revealed that gut bacteria may play a key role in aging, and that specific microbes could be targeted to promote healthy aging.
As part of this effort to understand the aging process and identify key lifestyle and dietary factors to encourage healthy aging, the team conducted the first large-scale study on over 200 octogenarians (people aged 80 - 89) in Singapore. Their investigation revealed how the gut microbiome changes with age, highlighting key microbial species associated with aging, and their potential effects on health.
