Only in Lebanon do we default, dodge every reform, hollow out our institutions…and then conclude that the “smart move” is… an investment conference. This isn’t strategy; it’s a case study in how detached we’ve become from economic reality. This is what happens when policy is driven by individuals more focused on staging a moment than fixing a system.

And at a moment of regional volatility, institutional paralysis, and historic public distrust, this move doesn’t just miss the mark. it undermines us. Donors are fatigued. Investors are skeptical. Asking them to engage now, with zero reforms and no foundations in place, doesn’t signal readiness; it signals unseriousness. It tells the world we’ve learned nothing from the collapse and are still looking for shortcuts to credibility instead of doing the work.

UNIFIL’s budget is ~$550M.
$120M hits Lebanon through local contracts, 10k peacekeepers spending $, and 540 Lebanese staff (mostly from the South) on payroll.

Those jobs pay 2-3× local salaries, in hard USD.

In today’s Lebanon, UNIFIL isn’t just peacekeeping. It’s one of the country’s top “corporates” - spending more than banks or Solidere, paying people top dollar, and bringing in fresh cash.

@WHO confirms that a 10-month-old baby in #Gaza is now paralysed due to #Polio. The first case in more than 25 years.

Polio will not make the distinction between Palestinian & Israeli children.
Delaying a humanitarian pause will increase the risk of spread among children.

It is not enough to bring the vaccines into Gaza + protect the cold chain. To have an impact, the vaccines must end up in the mouths of every child under the age of 10.

@UNRWA medical teams will deliver the vaccines in our clinics and through our mobile health teams.
Since the war began and with thx to these efforts, 80% of children across Gaza have received vaccines against different childhood diseases.
