Last night, something powerful unfolded. At a distinguished London fashion gala, the Somalian 🇸🇴 ambassador to the UK 🇬🇧 walked out- simply because we, Somalilanders, were present. We were welcomed with distinction: alongside the High Commissioner of Kenya, mayors of London boroughs, and delegations from Tanzania, DRC, and many other nations. The shock and dismay from the #Somalian side were palpable, but let me be clear: we will never be silent and we will never hide who we are. Somalilanders are distinct, forged apart from the 35 years of chaos in #Mogadishu. We carry our identity boldly, and we stand proud-no matter who tries to erase us. This is just the beginning, we will never stop asserting our identity, our dignity, and our right to stand apart from this mayhem. Lastly thank you to our Dir people who love #Somaliland and support their independence. We see you and we will stand with you from now on. One people.

The Red Sea is no longer just a commercial waterway—it is one of the world’s most important strategic corridors. What happens there affects global trade, energy markets, supply chains, and international security.

At the center is the Bab el-Mandeb Strait, the gateway linking the Red Sea and the Suez Canal to the Indian Ocean. Disruptions in this narrow waterway quickly ripple across the global economy through higher shipping costs, delayed trade, and increased economic uncertainty.

Maritime security is about more than protecting ships. It is about safeguarding the global flow of commerce while countering terrorism, piracy, weapons trafficking, human trafficking, and other transnational threats that exploit instability.

The strongest counterterrorism strategy begins before violence occurs. When governance is strong, institutions function, and communities trust public authorities, extremist organizations lose the space they need to recruit, organize, and operate.

Strong local partnerships are indispensable. Local communities provide human intelligence, early warning, cultural understanding, and long-term legitimacy capabilities no external military can fully replace.

Today’s geopolitical competition is ultimately a competition for trusted partnerships. Nations seek reliable allies that contribute to regional stability, secure trade routes, intelligence cooperation, and shared long-term interests.

This is why Somaliland deserves greater international attention. For more than 35 years, it has demonstrated relative stability, democratic governance, and responsible security while located along one of the world’s most strategic maritime corridors.

A stable Somaliland contributes to a more secure Red Sea, safer international shipping, stronger counterterrorism cooperation, and greater stability across the Horn of Africa. Stability is not only a regional interest it is a global strategic asset.
