To summarize: HuggingFace got autonomously compromised by a model from an American company. HF then tried to use American frontier model(s) to defend themselves, but were blocked by guardrails. HF then had to turn to open source Chinese models to defend themselves from another American company.
@marshmarigold Man was I annoyed about this. They opted me in without approval and when I tried to cancel the subscription i see that they again opted me in
We open sourced the tool used to detect the Axios supply chain compromise! I built it Friday after a red eye home from RSAC. Also, wrote up the full story, including the hectic moments after that first critical alert

OpenClaw is a new viral and scarily effective virtual assistant. But it's so hard to set up that even most engineers give up.
@usebits_inc will set up your secure OpenClaw instance on the cloud, batteries included, in 5 minutes.
Congrats on the launch @rob0the0nerd and @bailey_wickham!

Probably good to ask why we’re lacking ambition.
There’s a tech drain in Canada because of the policies set by this current government to demotivate anyone to build.
Majority of the Canadians I know work for US based companies because of high costs, better compensation, currency arbitrage etc.
Back in 2016 you can walk downtown and see startup logos all over, now its all clubs and restaurants post pandemic.
We used to have the heavy hitters like wealthsimple, shopify, konrad group as a cohort. After the pandemic, no companies followed their foot steps to take their place.
On investors - Canada has a handful investors and their the most risk averse group I’ve ever met. Any meeting I ever took back then was a brain dump so they can send to their portfolio co.
If you’re raising a angel or seed round - gg and gl. 0.01% chance you’ll be able to close unless you sell your soul.
On taxes - you spend more time figuring out the rules of the game, then to actually play the game itself.
When you do, you realise its setup in a way to demotivate you.
Personal income tax can be in the mid 40%, sales tax is 13%, and capital gains over 50% if you want to make a decent living.
I was making $200-300K living downtown and still felt like living pay cheque to pay cheque sometimes.
The only remaining positive thing is the lifetime capital gains exemption of up to 800k (assuming you meet criteria). Waiting for them to change that one up too.
I appreciate the tech community comeback like 535 and new builds, but you can’t fix culture unless you fix policy.
Wait till people see what runs on planes/submarines 🤣
Be careful, elite cyber seals hide everywhere! Like the hordes of hackers on trains they lurk everywhere ;)
