Met a 10 yo boy who wants to be a farmer when he grows up. He’s been in the top 100 twice in the Math Olympiad. Father is a physicist and mother a music teacher. None of them have any confusion about his future and they are confident that farming is the pursuit. The family is moving back to their village to live closer to agriculture. Sometimes it just takes clarity to chase the unconventional and walk towards what matters most.
We spend so much time pushing kids towards things that sound impressive on paper, but never let them wander. Wish this could be taught. But it has to be lived.
⚡️ Aphids be gone! ⚡️
Perkins' Good Earth Farm had been struggling with aphids for the last few years, and this season their certified organic tomatoes in their high tunnel were under attack.
Grower Dan Perkins hypothesized that the aphids were feeding on free nitrates. If the plants had the nutrition to process nitrates, the aphids would lose their food source.
✅ June 23: Took sap analysis
✅ June 30: Sprayed foliar micronutrients from AEA based on sap analysis
💥 By July 4, the aphids had disappeared! 💥
"We harvest, prune, and sucker every other day so the disappearance was noticeable," says Dan. "We did a second foliar and fertigation on July 10, and took a second sap analysis on July 23 to confirm reduction in ammonium and free nitrates."
Moreover, they stopped applying regular foliars towards the end of the season, and the aphids came right back.
Aphids are the first step for Dan. "For 2026, I hope to tackle potato larvae and cabbage lopper pressure."
Dan says, "I heard Market Gardener Institute is teaming up with AEA. Excited to see what comes from this partnership. As a market gardener, I wanted to share the success I had with AEA's program this summer."
Rock on!

After this interview with Robert Verkerk several friends have asked where they can learn more about the ecosystem effects of pesticides.

Bayer is considering declaring its subsidiary Monsanto insolvent to stop the lawsuits. "If that's true, it'd be outrageous. It'd leave #glyphosate victims almost empty-handed," said Brigitte Hincha-Weisel of @CBGnetwork. "The question is whether the courts will go along with it."

“Earth’s soil is drying up. It could be irreversible”.
Nice to see a few scientist/academics? beginning to wake up over 60 years after I first explained that this drying up due what I named “non-effective” rainfall leading to man-made desertification. This has been in all editions of my textbook for forty years, and that used by courageous professors in about 20 universities at last count. And I explained it very clearly complete with illustration in my 2013 TED Talk going to 9 million viewers.
Despite beginning to wake up, I am sad to see such well-meaning people still have the bull grasped firmly by its udder!
“Climate change is not only about rising temperatures, but also about long-term impacts on water availability — affecting agriculture, ecosystems and societies alike,” Samaniego said.
I hope within the next sixty years they get it that climate change is not causing all this, but it is global biodiversity loss, desertification and mega-fires fueling climate change and now feeding on each other spiraling out of control that is doing so. Stop all burning of fossil fuels tomorrow and this cycle will continue because not a single university, environmental organization or government is even talking about the cause of the problem, let alone dealing with it.
Even National Parks in many parts of America, Africa, Australia, UAE, etc. are contributing to biodiversity loss, desertification and climate change as I explain here with a simple way to solve the cause of the problem. https://t.co/MzyJ5Omo8V
Creating internal tools has never been easier, we've been able to build models with our own data and deploy a workable model within 2-3 hours... pretty awesome!
It is expected that by 2050, about 30-33% of the world's population would be mentally ill. This is because we always think that solutions to our challenges are outside of us. All the solutions are within us, but we have no "Inward access." The Miracle of Mind app will teach you how to build this access. Every one of you must invest 7 minutes every day to make this happen for yourselves and for everyone around you. Let's make it happen. –Sg

The antioxidant ERGO–a "longevity vitamin" humans can't produce–flows from soil fungi to crops via ancient fungal networks.
Arbuscular mycorrhizal fungi (AMF) boost ERGO in food crops by up to 72x.
On many modern farms this fundamental nutritional pipeline is broken...
