Some personal and professional news - I’m incredibly excited to share that I’m moving to San Francisco to launch @airtreevc's presence in the US.
Over a decade ago, Airtree set out to back Aussie and Kiwi founders building the iconic technology companies of tomorrow. Almost every one of them, from Canva to Linktree to Airwallex, had to build their US muscle at some point, whether that was raising capital, landing enterprise customers or setting up a team there. With everything happening in AI, the gravitational pull of the US has only gotten stronger and now is the right time to build a dedicated platform for ANZ founders abroad starting or scaling their businesses on the global stage.
Our mandate isn’t changing. We back antipodean founders wherever they’re building and increasingly, many of them are going to the US. We go where they go.
On a personal note - I moved back home to Sydney from New York in 2022 to join Airtree because I wanted to play a role in the growing Aussie/Kiwi tech ecosystem. Airtree is a world-class VC that just happens to be based in Australia and our partners (and many of the team, including myself) have all worked globally and boomeranged back home. Over the past 4 years, I’ve had a blast working with so many founders and operators here, and I'm looking forward to making new connections with Aussies who are already in the US and ensuring our brightest minds stay connected to Australian capital and values.
One of my goals is to meet every Aussie and Kiwi working in tech. If you’re already in the Bay Area or heading there, send me a note. I plan to spend the first few weeks finding where the best flat whites are (my wife is expecting detailed reviews).
