I’m one of the leading engineers that specializes in emissions reduction in the Canadian in-situ oil sands sector.
Emissions Cap= Production Cap
Let me explain:
The enthalpy/ energy intensity associated with steam generation to produce the oil literally means production cap as there is direct correlation between oil production to steam’s heat transfer. The oil is too viscous to flow without the steam and as hard as a hockey puck. In other words, we utilize steam injection to reduce the viscosity of our oil and mobilize it so it can be drained by gravity, otherwise it’s too hard and can’t be produced.
The emissions are associated with generation of the steam, so emissions cap is production cap, with steam to oil ratio being the indicator of economic and environmental efficiencies.
Most of my career was committed to reduction of steam utilization as I worked on projects like solvents and non- condensable gas co-injection.
The industry is doing a good job advancing these projects and integrating in current operations but like everything in life, it takes time and capital. It is my observation, that oil price volatility and additional taxation results in slower integration of these important emission reducing initiatives. 🫡🪒
@dockevinmcleod IMO This is a honeymoon period for Carney. The liberals have no way to justify their record, which Carney was a part of despite his self proclaimed outsider status.
Trump has given them a holiday from their record. It will not last.
@Gugo907 Giddy up then. Time to load the truck. It seems you MUST wait for ridiculous prices if you want to have some fun. Even then keep some dry powder.
@RazorOil The vibe before lunch break was : approved,
Chairwoman took extra time to thank Rob Brown for showing up. It would be a political
disaster to not have this go ahead. Government will want its money back. IMO
@dockevinmcleod I often wonder how much extra $ could be freed up if a serious look was taken at all government spending at all levels. Everytime I visit a hospital, I see people working their butts off. I'm not convinced the same effort occurs with our tax $ elsewhere. Very poor accountability
@RealPeterLinder Pro forma the recent dispositions, we now have 6,584 (5,675 net) drilling locations5 of which only 36% of such locations have been booked in our reserve report, which provides us with over 25 years of profitable and sustainable growth in production and funds flow. Nice!
