@FBiffENGL205 My cousin Michael is bi-sexual and you would never know unless you ask! He has dated many girls but is also interested in guys. I also have a friend who is bi-sexual and again you wouldn’t know unless you ask. Don’t judge a book by its cover is what I was taught growing up!
I found it very interesting that Michael decided to say he will be neither a “king or a queen” and that he is just a man who just wants to wear a dress! You rarely see this in drag. Most of the time it is a male who preforms with the female pronouns and clothing! #xuengl205
@magpatt2 I totally agree with you! Knowing that he possibly could be picked or something worse it was very courageous of him! He was very open and brave to write such a letter. Like you said “The letter was a movement of strength & confidence”. #XUEngl205
I find it interesting that Michael and Anna can’t communicate with their family in Cyprus without their moms translation. I would have thought that she would have taught a few sentences. I guess it’s to keep the kids from hearing the rude and inappropriate sayings! #XUENGL205
@BenSeibert16 For me my Dad is my biggest mentor. I have many father figures in my life that help me, and teach me so much about life and different topics. My Dad has been there through thick and thin luckily. I understand many can’t say that their Dad was influential their life. #XUengl205
This section of the book is very important to understand and take to heart. You are not just the labels that society puts on you you are a human and you are special. Being multi cultural doesn’t mean someone’s fragmented! #XUEngl205
Reading these last sections of the book was very interesting and sometimes difficult. I have a hard time in within any book or physical setting hearing or reading the "N word". I haven't been around many people who freely say this term. #XUEngl205
@sklink20 I completely agree with this statement. I went to a high school where it was predominantly white students. From the students of color I was friends with, they felt like they stuck out among the crowd at school, and in public sometimes.
@magpatt2 Communication without body language is hard to understand. Though we do it all the time with communication through social media. My Fiancé's grandpa is going blind and now has to rely on the tone of a voice more than his sight to communicate which makes it harder to communicate.
I was very appalled reading this quote. How can someone that educated be that closed minded. One would have thought having three degrees would have discouraged that point of view. Maybe she has never seen another black person with cancer. #XUEngl205
I was very intrigued about how she used the 2nd person view to bring the reader into the story. I thought the quote below was very relatable.
Question from the reading: What microaggressions can you think of that you might have? #XUEngl205
@alexapmitchell I agree with you Alexa because because you might not think such statements aren't harmful or damaging doesn't make them fully adequate for certain situations. You have to take a step back and realise who you are talking too, and their past interactions with you and or others.
@FBiffENGL205 One thing my parents always told me growing up was that they worked there butts off to give me and my brother a better life than they had growing up. All parents want is to see their children to succeed and never struggle and live a better life than they ever had!
I found it interesting that Saujani’s story was about figuring yourself out. Finding out who you are and embracing your differences as strengths and not as weaknesses! I also found it interesting that religion played a big part in these essays. #BeDifferent#xuengl205
@magpatt2 I totally agree with this statement! I love how it is a raw perspective of how and where the show was created. I love how it isn’t made by non-indigenous people but of true indigenous people!
Reservation Dogs was a very interesting show to watch. I was very shocked to hear all of the cussing. I found it interesting that @TaikaWaititi also directed the movie Thor Ragnarok! The show gives a new persecutive on the indigenous youths day to day life. #xuengl205
