@ezyang I don't think your question is sufficiently defined. Even if it's not racing you need to make sure the relative ordering of reads/writes matches your needs.
@geofft@geofft On Linux trying to get malloc to fail is going to just make you sad, especially since most software isn't malloc-failure-safe. You'll be happier with a userspace daemon acting as OOM killer.
