March 2021, during the second wave of COVID, we enhanced a customer’s CC limit from ₹60 lakh to ₹1 crore. He needed to make an urgent payment of ₹25 lakh, otherwise he would have lost the deal.

After sanctioning the loan, we told the borrower to arrange the stamp paper so that we could disburse the enhanced portion.

The next day, his kid was hospitalised. He called me and said, “Sir, stamp paper arrange kara do, bohot bada loss ho jaayega.”

There was no one at the office, so I decided to go there myself.

Huge rush. I somehow bought the stamp paper, came back, and got the loan disbursed.

3–4 days later, I caught COVID.

I almost died. My body weight dropped by more than 15 kg. Since then, I have faced health issues that I had never experienced before.

Many of my colleagues weren’t as lucky. They lost their lives to COVID, serving the customers.

So when you say banking services are essential, you aren’t revealing some great secret to us.

We have served the nation when it mattered most, and we will continue to do so.

But when we demand something that has already been pending for over a decade, you preach gyaan to us?

We know what our responsibility is.

We just expect the same understanding of our demands.
