Jim Jeffries often said the hardest punch he ever received was during his fight with Joe Choynski. Despite entering the bout 217 pounds to Joe's 167 pounds, in the tenth round, Choynski hit Jeffries so hard in the mouth, "It drove my upper lip between my two front teeth and I had to have my seconds cut away a piece of my lip to release it," Jeffries remarked years later. “To this day, I can’t figure out how a runt like him could hurt me so damned bad.... I never saw as many stars in my life as I saw during that bout with Choynski.”
