Google which is cash surplus, just announced an additional capital raise of $80 bn.
Google annual profit is $160 bn, last quarter $62 bn, and market cap $4.5 trillion. That is close to total profits and market cap of all Indian listed companies put together.
It’s a wake up call to all companies to invest into the future, whatever the present maybe.
Now that IPL is done and dusted, time for India to focus on business of business.
President Macron scolds the US and Israel for attacking Iran,
"The day you say I don't like your regime, I consider you threatening your neighbour so I will intervene and bomb you, you open a Pandora's box"
"Iran is a very bad regime, no discussion about that. I disagree with on a lot of topics"
"But I don't agree we will fix the situation just by bombings or military operations"
"Look at what happened in Iraq, Afghanistan, Libya - we never delivered. Never"
"You have to respect the sovereignty of people, if people want to change a regime, they can do so"
"Having an agenda shared by Korea, France, the other Europeans, Canada, Japan, India, Brazil, Australia, you start having a third way"
"Those who don't want to be dependent on China, or aligned by definition, on the US"
Little reminder: After Germany blew up their nuclear power plant cooling towers, last year they blew up one of their biggest coal power plants.
Right in time for the biggest energy crisis in history to hit…
The coal plant was:
- Only 6 years old
- Cost €3 billion
- Produced 1,650 MW
Germany is doing everything in its power to create a perpetual energy crisis.
A group of #minority#shareholders, armed with forensic reports and years of financial data, had filed India’s first-ever class action lawsuit against #Jindal Poly Films Ltd, a flagship of the $2.5 billion BC Jindal Group.
Led by #investor Ankit Jain and represented by Saraf and Partners, the group wasn’t asking for #dividends or #board seats.
Instead, they turned to Section 245 of the Companies Act — a rarely used provision that allows shareholders to band together and sue #promoters through a single case.
Their charge: the company’s promoters #siphoned off more than ₹2,780 crore, enriching other promoter-controlled entities while #public shareholders bore the cost.
For #India’s #markets, the case is bigger than one company. It is the first real test of Section 245, a tool designed to check promoter power in a system where retail investors have long had little recourse.
The stakes extend far beyond this single case. #Fund #managers are studying the precedent for potential application to their #portfolio #companies.
Legal firms are advising clients on exposure to similar challenges. #Business families across India are reassessing long-held assumptions about #accountability and minority shareholder #rights.
Hearing on this case will resume on September 25.

Disneyland and the Power of Smell
Disney employs over 2,000 people in its Imagineering Group, the team of engineers and designers that build the theme parks.
In 1986, the group was granted one of its most famous patents: a "Smell-Emitting System".
Also known as a Smellitzer, the machine uses pressurized gas to pump scented air as far as 200 feet.
At Disneyland, the first Smellitzer most people encounter is at Candy Palace on Main Street.
Where exactly? Look at the circle vents under the windows.
Here is a closer look including the machine on the inside of the store.
These vents send out smells of cookies and vanilla (not actual baking, but lab-created scents).
The job of Imagineering — a portmanteau of "imagination" and "engineering" that Walt Disney borrowed from Alcoa in the early 1950s — is to engage all of our senses and tell a coherent story.
Matching smells to a theme are a key part of the job. So, Smellitzers emit relevant scents throughout Disney theme parks:
◻️ Pooh's Adventure (honey)
◻️ Haunted Mansion (musty, old wood)
◻️ Pirates of the Caribbean (salty sea air)
◻️ Soarin' Around the World (orange groves of Florida, jasmine of Taj Mahal)
The Smellitzers also capitalize on the fact that smell plays a large part in memory formation (odours are processed in areas of the brain that deal with emotions and memory).
On a related note, here is my most salient formed memory from a recent trip to Disneyland.
The India Rising story posits that the next decade will see India displace China as the growth engine of the world. That may or may not be true, but the Hindenburg short selling thesis on the Adani Group tests the weakest links in the India story. https://t.co/X9ZsWUouQw
Our company slack feels dead / no company culture / nobody knows each other when everyone is remote.
Anyone got a tool they LOVE that's making their company feel alive/connected?
I wish every single person in the West would listen to Putin's speech. Obviously, that won't happen so let me summarise as a professional translator for 10+ years. He states, as he has done from the outset, what his intentions and complaints are in the plainest terms possible.🧵
I need to download an app to see the results of a test that my kid took at school. You could easily show the results on a website, but no, got to bump up those installs.
Folks at Byjus, keep doing these growth hacks, and soon no one in the industry will want to work with you.
