I finally got my domain name back!

I don't remember the dates, but about 15 years, I registered a dot com for my own name, https://t.co/pLhvkrQchs, and launched a blog about the media business on it.

This at the very beginning of my career and this blog helped get my name around in the media ecosystem in Quebec.

At some point, I stopped blogging, but made sure to renew my domain name as I knew it could come handy wherever my career would bring me...

To make sure I didn't loose it, I remember registering for something like 5 years in advance at some point... thinking taking such a precaution would diminish the risk I forget to renew and loose the domain name...

Obviously, it had the inverse impact, since, by the time it was set to renew, my credit card number was obviously not the same!

When I realized I lost the domain, it was offered for sale for about $1,000 on of those domain parking marketplace, and while it was not a crazy sum, I was not rich and thought it was foolish to fork such an amount for a domain I actually had no use for...

I checked a couple of times over the years, and at some point, the domain was discounted for a couple hundreds bucks... And I almost snapped it, but decided against again...

I probably should have snapped it at this price, but I guess I hate encouraging those damned domain squatters :)

It did not think about it until December 2024, when @adrianborows asked me why there was no website on https://t.co/pLhvkrQchs. The domain no longer pointed to the domain parking marketplace, which triggered me to check its availability on @Namecheap, and boom, it was finally up for grab for $10!

So I wanted to tell the domain squatter who paid the renewals fees on my behalf all those years for me I appreciate him or her! Whoever you are, thank you!

That said, don't do what I did, even if turned out OK for me! And if you're curious, I finally had the time to add a couple of lines of html on it!
