I am writing to you as a concerned member of the American Pakistani community regarding the alarming human rights violations and suppression of democratic freedoms currently unfolding in Pakistan.

Earlier this week, peaceful protestors gathered at D-Chowk in Islamabad to voice their concerns over alleged election rigging and the unjust imprisonment of political leaders, including former Prime Minister Imran Khan. In response, the Pakistani government launched a brutal crackdown, using live ammunition on unarmed citizens.

One particularly distressing video shows a protestor in prayer atop a shipping container being violently pushed off by armed personnel, a tragic symbol of the regime’s blatant disregard for human dignity and the right to peaceful protest. This attack on civilians represents a serious breach of fundamental human rights and democratic principles. Journalists attempting to report on these events have been arrested, silencing the media and preventing critical details from reaching the global community.

The Pakistani intelligence agency, ISI, is directly involved in the transnational repression of the Pakistani diaspora who speak out about the plight of people in Pakistan. This poses a serious threat to the safety of the families of American citizens residing in Pakistan.

The United States has always championed the principles of democracy, freedom, and human rights. Given these shared values, I urge you to:

1. Condemn the Violence: Issue a public statement denouncing the excessive use of force against peaceful protestors in Pakistan.
2. Demand Accountability: Support calls for an independent investigation into the human rights abuses during the protests.
3. Encourage Diplomatic Action: Advocate for the U.S. government to engage with Pakistan diplomatically to press for the restoration of democratic norms and the rule of law.
4. Support Advocacy Efforts: Collaborate with international human rights organizations to monitor and report on the situation in Pakistan.
5. Take action against transnational repression originating from the Pakistani Embassy in Washington, D.C. The notorious ISI Station Chief, Khaleeq-ur-Rehman, operating out of the embassy, is reportedly threatening the families of U.S. citizens in Pakistan to exert pressure on us here in the United States.

The American Pakistani community deeply values the freedoms and rights we enjoy in the United States, and we believe it is our duty to speak out for those who cannot. Your action on this matter would not only demonstrate America’s commitment to human rights but also provide hope to millions of Pakistanis fighting for justice and democracy.

There is no news on Imran Khan. They have cancelled his case hearings in jail court this week. And the next court case is scheduled for 2nd and 3rd December.
So day after tomorrow is when lawyers and the family will be able to meet Imran Khan.
