For the high roller, I am going to assume a CS/SE/math, and likely FAANG. So, $150k in SF is probably reasonable for a newly minted BS degree(s)? If the job is remote, then the salary is woah...
"Of the 431 Class of 2021 @RoseHulman graduates, 426 have been placed within six months of graduation, with an average starting salary of $73,800 and a high reported offer of $145,000. That’s a 99% placement rate." JFC, economically, i choose the entirely wrong path...
How do large-scale structures develop in thermal convection? From this direct numerical simulation of Rayleigh-Bénard convection by Erwin van der Poel @poftwente@utwente one can see: Thermal plumes emerge and merge, building up the large-scale turbulent convection roll. #DNS
This droplet really does not want to sit on the surface: Impact of a water droplet on a superheated carbon nanofiber jungle surface at T = 350C. Video by Hrudya Nair & colleagues @poftwente@utwente. Frame rate = 30000 frames per second.

@gabrielweymouth@garethmckinley I'm a high-order finite-difference guy, so i'm probably out of my depth, but LBM [seems] like it can converge to some "DNS" results. https://t.co/zvXU44eAUA

Polygon patterns of convection form when liquid nitrogen is poured into a warm beaker. This work, by Alexis Duchesne et al at TU Denmark, was a winner of the 2018 #GalleryOfFluidMotion. The full video is at https://t.co/DDjaAmStfO #FluidDynamics#FBF#Physics#Chaos
@ToughSf In this simulation (not from my group, but from Venkat Raman's group at U. Michigan) you'll see a detonation propagate through layers of reactive mixture. https://t.co/3EQaoUjnuv

@ToughSf This work is quite theoretical, but detonations propagating into inhomogeneous mixtures is encountered in applications where there is not sufficient time for complete mixing of fuel and oxidizer, such as in rotating detonation engines (RDEs).
20 years ago, I started to work with my students on the problem of detonations propagating into inhomogeneous media. This new paper by Aslan Kasimov in @JFluidMech reveals a richer dynamics than we ever imagined:
