📍Pržno, Montenegro -- At the #Berlin Process Foreign Ministers’ Meeting, I reaffirmed Albania’s unwavering commitment to a more secure, competitive, and interconnected Western Balkans.

The security of the Western Balkans and the security of Europe are inseparable. In an increasingly complex geopolitical environment, the answer to our shared challenges lies in stronger cooperation, greater unity, and a more resilient Europe. And for us, it has a name: #enlargement. Not as a favour or a reward, but as a merit-based process anchored in meaningful and impactful reforms, while being also a strategic investment for Europe’s security, stability, and long-term competitiveness.

One of the most important lessons of the Berlin Process is that #European integration begins at home, long before accession. It is advanced through practical cooperation, mobility and people-to-people contacts, mutual recognition of diplomas, connectivity, and the Common Regional Market, otherwise, tangible achievements that improve citizens’ lives, deepen regional ties, and bring our societies ever closer to the European Union.

For Albania, the question is no longer whether the Western Balkans belong in the European Union. That question was answered in Thessaloniki twenty-three years ago. The real question today is whether we all together have the courage, determination, and political will to fulfil Europe’s promise and complete the last part of the unification of our continent.

We owe the next generation more than another promise of European perspective. We owe them the certainty of a European future, built on peace, prosperity, democratic values, and a shared destiny. 🇦🇱🇪🇺

Siguria e Ballkanit Perëndimor dhe siguria e Evropës janë të pandashme. Në një mjedis gjithnjë e më kompleks gjeopolitik, përgjigjja ndaj sfidave tona të përbashkëta qëndron te bashkëpunimi më i fortë, uniteti më i madh dhe një Evropë më e qëndrueshme dhe më e aftë për t’u përballur me sfidat. Dhe për ne, kjo ka një emër: #zgjerimi. 📍Vienna -- Pleased to participate in the High-Level Meeting of European Affairs Ministers of the #Slavkov Format (Austria, Czechia and Slovakia) and the Western Balkans, graciously hosted at the Federal Chancellery by Austria’s Federal Minister for Europe, @claudiabauer_at. 🇦🇹

At a time when Europe faces an increasingly complex geopolitical environment, regional cooperation formats such as the Slavkov–Western Balkans framework are far more than complementary platforms. They are practical drivers of #European integration and powerful catalysts for progress.

They help us advance on two equally important fronts. For candidate countries, they provide a practical framework to strengthen institutions, align policies and build the experience necessary for successful EU membership. For Member States, they offer an opportunity to coordinate efforts, maintain momentum and reinforce the strategic case for #enlargement as a key investment in Europe’s future.

Our discussions focused on a shared objective: ensuring that enlargement remains a credible, merit-based process that delivers meaningful benefits for citizens at every step.

I highlighted some of our key priorities as we move head 👇

• Bringing European Union closer to citizens through a stronger and more compelling narrative.

• Giving young people a genuine sense of belonging to the European family today, not only after accession.

• Turning gradual integration into concrete opportunities and benefits well before membership.

I was pleased to participate in the Inter-Parliamentary Conference on the “Strategic Agenda for EU Enlargement and Albania’s Accession”, organised by the #Parliament of Albania.

EU accession has always been both a technically demanding and politically significant process. Yet recent developments have underscored its broader geopolitical importance. #Enlargement today is about far more than the adoption of standards legislation. It is about peace, security and stability. It is about resilience. Ultimately, it is about the strategic future of our continent. At a time when peace and security can no longer be taken for granted, strategic ambiguity comes at a high cost.

For #Albania, the European choice is neither a matter of political convenience nor a response to circumstance. It is a strategic national commitment and a whole-of-society project that we continue to advance and earn every day. Through a comprehensive reform agenda, we have strengthened the rule of #law, modernised public administration, reinforced democratic institutions, and progressively aligned our legislation and policies with the #EU acquis.

The progress achieved over the past two years has been remarkable. The pace of reforms has been sustained, the momentum preserved, and our capacity to deliver has been demonstrated time and again. As we advance in the final phase of the #accession process, our focus is now firmly on implementation, building a strong track record of results, and ensuring that the benefits of reform are felt by our citizens.

We seek no shortcuts, only a fair, credible and merit-based accession process, with performance remaining the guiding principle for all. Enlargement must continue to be driven by results: candidate countries must fulfil their commitments, and tangible progress must be recognised accordingly. We view accession not as a favour to be requested, but as a responsibility to be fulfilled and an achievement to be earned.

The future of Albania is firmly within the European Union. And a stronger, safer, more resilient and more united Europe is one that includes Albania as a full member of the European family. #Together, we can help build a #Europe that is whole, secure and prepared for the challenges of the future. 🇦🇱🇪🇺

Meeting in Tirana with @BelgiumDGE , as always, a valuable exchange on 🇦🇱 Albania’s 🇪🇺 EU integration process, the future of EU enlargement, and bilateral relations between our two countries.

Much has changed since his last visit to Tirana two years ago. Albania has made remarkable progress: we have opened all 33 negotiating chapters, fulfilled the interim benchmarks under the Fundamentals Cluster, and entered the concluding phase of negotiations, closing our first three chapters in July.

We discussed the next steps, the continuation of reforms and the importance of maintaining a credible, merit-based enlargement process, as well as further strengthening Albania–Belgium cooperation. 🇦🇱🇧🇪🇪🇺

📍New York - In the margins of the #UNGA81 High-Level Week, I signed, on behalf of Albania, the United Nations Convention against Cybercrime, reaffirming our commitment to stronger international cooperation in addressing a threat that increasingly affects our citizens, businesses, and public institutions.

#Cybercrime knows no borders, and neither can our response. This Convention establishes an important framework for enhanced international cooperation, facilitating the sharing of electronic evidence and strengthening collective efforts to prevent, investigate, and prosecute serious crimes in the digital space.

For #Albania, building security, resilience, and trust in the digital world is an integral part of our broader digital transformation agenda. As technology continues to create new opportunities for growth and innovation, we must ensure that our ability to protect those who rely on it keeps pace with these developments.

📍New York -- In the capacity of co-founder of the Group of Friends on #Accountability following Russia’s aggression against Ukraine, we partcipated in a High Level Side Event on accountabiity for Ukrainian children.

#Albania remains steadfast in defending justice, upholding international law and supporting victims.
Four and a half years into #Russia's full-scale invasion of Ukraine, accountability remains not only a legal imperative but also a moral and political necessity.

The unlawful deportations and forcible transfers to Russia of #Ukrainian children from occupied territories represents an assault not only on individual children but on the future of an entire nation. Efforts to reshape identities, sever cultural and family ties, and undermine the fundamental rights of the child are wrong, reprehensible, legally and morally.

Accountability is not an obstacle to peace. It delivers justice, establishes the truth, deters future violations and makes peace durable.

📍New York -- Regional cooperation is no longer simply a matter of good neighbourly relations; it is a strategic necessity.

I was pleased to take part in the joint #CEI and #SEECP meeting organised under the chairmanship of Romania.

In a world shaped by growing uncertainty, war, hybrid threats, cyber-attacks and economic pressures, our response must be clear: more cooperation, not fragmentation; more dialogue, not confrontation; and more practical action, not merely political declarations.

For #Albania, regional cooperation remains a cornerstone of our foreign policy and a strategic investment in the peace, security, resilience and prosperity of the #WesternBalkans and Europe as a whole.

#Regional cooperation and EU accession are mutually reinforcing: stronger regional ties help advance the European perspective, while the prospect of EU membership provides a powerful impetus for cooperation, reform and connectivity.

📍New York -- At the meeting of the Rome #Coalition on Fertilisers and Food Access, co-chaired by #Italy and #Croatia, I highlighted that food security has become a matter of security, resilience and connectivity.

Recent disruptions affecting key maritime corridors, from the Strait of #Hormuz to the Red Sea and the Black Sea, have once again demonstrated the close link between security, global trade and food systems. These developments have far-reaching consequences, threatening supply chains, fertiliser availability, agricultural production and, ultimately, consumers around the world.

For #Albania, as a country deeply integrated into regional and international markets, the security of maritime routes, freedom of navigation and open trade corridors are of fundamental importance. This is why we believe the Rome Coalition has an increasingly important role to play, not only in responding to crises, but also in strengthening collective preparedness, resilience and long-term food security.

In an interconnected world, #food security cannot be separated from economic security. The global economy, and our shared prosperity, depend on secure routes, reliable supplies and resilient food systems.
