I have been working from #Vietnam from the last 15 days
Sharing some info for those planning to visit / work from here which could be useful. Just pointers.
1. Download the Grab App for all your taxi + food delivery etc. Indian mobile + cards work seamless on the app
2. All airports have bus services which you can take to reach your hotel/hostel from the airport. Dirt cheap. If bus is not your choice then book a cab with the Grab app. You'll save 50% more than booking a can from the desks at the airport.
3. Get a SIM from Viettel Mobile. The best coverage across the country.
4. Train and bus commute between major cities is not the best / economical way to commute. Take the flight. Book early, and it's approx. Rs. 3K per flight approx.
5. Take care of restaurants adding VAT in the bill without telling the final amount
6. Ho Chi Minh you won't have an issue with using cards at the smallest vendor but Hanoi most prefer cash or would want to add an extra 2% - 3% for using the POS.
7. Get the HappyCow app in case you're vegetarian / vegan. The app helps a lot to find the places around
8. Other taxi / food apps re Be and Gojek. Both work well.
9. I stayed at the Meander Saigon Hostel. It costs approx. Rs. 1000 a night. Higher than the other hostels but the price includes a proper co-working in the same building. Also the facilities are top notch for any hostel + no party scenes. Peacefully stay & work.
10. You could get long rentals too for 25K - 30K a month depending on the facilities/area etc. Quite a few serviced apartments are available.
11. Veg food in Indian Restaurant on average will get you down Rs. 800-900 for one meal. You can always cook your own meals etc if needed. Non-veg is much cheaper and has tons of options. From roadside to the finest dine ins.
12. Getting laundry done is dirt cheap, and it's by the kilo. Mostly you will pay Rs. 200 with 24 hours delivery.
13. Booking any hostel/hotel room check the AC first. The country gets mad humid. Ho Chi Minh is still better but Hanoi and Halong Bay are bad and will need AC most of the day. Stepping out then hydrate a lot.
14. Did not find any pickpocket issues etc but don't let your guard down. The place is chill. No one bothers you. Not even the roadside sellers etc. If anyone approaches just politely say "tôi sống ở đây" means "I live here" and they don't bother you (learned it while here and been so helpful to respectfully be left alone).
15. Buying electronics / gadgets make sure you do it from authentic shops + also ask the version. Many sold here are Chinese versions which are dirt cheap on which they'll load your needed OS etc. Not got much into details but double check. Also don't forget to take VAT Refund.
16. Coffee and fresh juices are available everywhere and I am literally living off them. Super good and not pricey at all.
17. No one stops at the pedestrian crossing so make sure you're very careful
18. Evenings there are mad traffic. If possible avoid hitting the road in those times
Will keep adding more things that could be useful for your visit.

@MTPHereToHelp@BharatShivdasa2 It's very difficult for senior citizens to walk so much just to cross the road. Also about 500 houses don't have access to the turning which is barricaded and cars have to take a u-turn at a distance and come back causing traffic jams...

Use Uber/Ola or buy your own car? If you drive less than 20 km a day, we find that Uber/Ola makes sense. Of course, there are assumptions behind this. The threshold will rise if you buy an expensive car or if car loan rates rise or if you need a driver. On the flip side, you are buying a car for aspirational reasons or convenience then cost-saving matters less. But here's a back-of-the-envelope for those weighing the two options.
