@_beccaharrison@soiled_plants2 I have!!! I did the breeder’s equation in purple for a member of my cohort, and a phylogenetic tree showing the evolution of cold adaption for another!
I'm excited to announce that this January, I will be starting an NSF PRFB postdoc at the University Minnesota with Dr. Candy Hirsch, Dr. Aaron Lorenz, and Dr. David Tilman to explore the genomics of grass-legume interactions. I'm looking forward to this next chapter in my career!
I'm proud to reintroduce myself as Dr. Aimee Schulz, PhD! Thank you to my labmates, collaborators, friends, and family who all were here to cheer me on today both in person and online. I'd also like to thank my advisor Dr. Ed Buckler for all of his mentoring and support.
🎉Edward Buckler, plant geneticist w/ @USDA_ARS & CALS adjunct prof, has been awarded the 2025 Barbara McClintock Prize for Plant Genetics & Genome Studies from the Maize Genetics Cooperation, a global org of maize geneticists & breeders. Congratulations! https://t.co/SD7UOZqUbA
Apply now (deadline Sunday!) for Consider Cornell: Experience (Oct. 25-26, 2024, Ithaca, NY), a two-day, on-campus, expense-paid Ph.D. preview program. Learn more and apply by August 4 at https://t.co/82kZEHyFUO @CornellOISE
Honored to have been awarded Best Student Poster Presentation at @icqg2024 for my poster on across-species association mapping to identify the genetics of perenniality. Thank you to @GeneticsGSA for sponsoring this award!
I officially graduated from @Cornell! I became the first doctor in my family and the first person on my mom's side to get more than an 8th-grade education. I now join the 0.27% of Indigenous and 4% of Asian (no Thai-specific stats) doctorate recipients in the plant sciences! 🌽🌾

@jrossibarra receives the @theNASciences prize in Food and Agriculture for his amaizing use of evolution to understand where we came from and where we can go!
Evolutionary biologists inducted into the National Academy of Sciences this evening in the beautiful NAS auditorium include Doug Emlen, Naomi Pierce, Katie Peichel, Susana Magallon, Jonathan Wendel, Anne Yoder, Bruce Tabashnik, Barbara Block, and Tyrone Hayes! #NAS161
This thread is for students who didn't win the GRFP today. Who are wondering if they actually belong in science, or scrolling through a bunch of tweets that start "So excited to announce..." with a little spurt of bitterness they aren’t proud of. 1/9
Determining my defense date has been a bit like naming a final version of a file. In other news, “PhD_Defense_final_finalForReal_actualFinal.seminar” has been set!
#MGM2024 make sure to stop by poster 181 and take part in our outreach game on plant domestication and adaptation! It’s an interactive poster, so get creative and make some seeds!
We’ll test out everyone’s designs TONIGHT at 10pm by our poster - there will be a leaf blower!
Honored to have received 2nd place in the Larry Darrah Student Presentation Contest at this year’s Corn Breeding Research meeting for my work on intraspecific competition dynamics in US inbred and hybrid maize. Thanks @JoeGage10 and Jim Holland for organizing!
