"I don't think that athletes fully understand what it means to be elite.
It's practice before practice.
It's early mornings week after week - month after month.
It's sacrificing time with family and friends.
It's relentless.
And most people aren't willing to do it."
One aspect that hasn't been discussed enough with some of these players transferring 3 or 4 times in their college careers is whether they will be academically eligible to play. Lose credits each time you transfer.
The academic component has become an afterthought for so many now.
The weight room used to be the separator. Now, everyone is using it out of necessity. If you aren’t, your skill level better be off the charts if you have any ambition in athletics.
The new separator is nutrition and sleep. Not even half of teens invest in the kitchen.
“If your coach pushes you-
if your coach disciplines you-
if your coach demands the best from you at all times…
then he or she truly cares.” -McCaw Method
Was fortunate to talk to some college coaches this weekend in Grand Rapids and all say the same thing.. “Recruiting is harder than it’s ever been”
PLAYERS aspiring to play College Hoops please listen to me… Please! Stop dribbling for the sake of dribbling. Pass the ball and move, set screens. Let coaches see that you understand how to play, that you can guard, you’re a good teammate. When you’re are on the court the team is better. I can promise they don’t care if you can do an inside out, between the legs, cross over euro step, crab dribble side step 3. Promise!
Hey athletes…
I promise you can lift even if you:
“Have a game tomorrow.”
“Have a big tournament coming up.”
“Just played today.”
“Just played yesterday.”
“Just had practice.”
Stop thinking strength training is automatically some taboo “make you sore,” event
“We’ve got Hall of Famers and some of the best players that ever played the game came off the bench or didn’t play. That don’t mean you ain’t good. They are just playing a role. If you’re going to play a team sport, there are going to be things you have to give up to get what you want,” @KingJames
The tradition of the @OHSAASports basketball tournament CAN be saved!
I believe that I’ve come up with a reasonable way to preserve the State Final 4 that allows the Semi-Finals & Finals of all 7 Divisions to take place at 1 site (either Dayton or Columbus). By utilizing 2 arenas (Schott/St. John in Columbus OR UD/Wright St. in Dayton) you could keep the traditional State Final Four experience for all 28 teams who make it.
14 Semi-Final games played in 7 pods over the first 2 days. 7 state championship games all in stand alone time slots on Saturday/Sunday. 1 site utilizing 2 arenas & it could be accomplished (perhaps even Dayton for girls & Columbus for boys to allow both cities/universities to host??). Obviously the logistics would have to be negotiated between the universities & OHSAA…but it seems both parties would benefit so greatly that the logistics could be worked out.
Attendance would sky rocket. Revenues would increase (which would more than offset additional costs). Surrounding commerce would thrive. Fan experience off the charts (21 games in 4 days). And most importantly….the Players/Coaches/Communities of 28 teams would get to experience this incredible State Final Four EVENT every season.
Ohio has a chance to not only preserve its basketball traditions when it comes to the state tourney…but I would argue that this proposed state tournament format would allow the EVENT to become greater than it has ever been & would rival NONE. It would become the envy of every other state!
LET’S MAKE IT HAPPEN!

Even if your role is to bring energy and enthusiasm from the bench, you can make a difference.
Energy is contagious, make sure yours is worth catching.

Mike Leach was Consumed
When Mike Leach was getting his law degree he reached out to a famous attorney to see if law was really what he wanted to do with his life.
This was the response he got...
"I love law. I hate law. But, most importantly, I am consumed by law. I think about it all the time, and yes, I would do the same thing again because it is fulfilling to do something you are consumed with. If you are consumed by law, go be an attorney. If you are not, find something else."
Mike followed up that response with these thoughts...
The words he used resonated: being consumed.
Most people will say you should love what you do or enjoy what you do.
Enjoy what you do, though, is an oversimplification.
If you're ever really good at anything, you don't enjoy it all of the time because there's a chase and a challenge to it that goes beyond enjoyment.
There is a certain pain that goes into having truly great success. You will have to overcome a lot of obstacles.
I thought about law some, but I thought about sports, football in particular, a lot.
YES! I should go out and try to become a football coach!"
Wow, take the time to watch this clip from Dana Altman. He says a lot in a small amount of time 🔥 🔥
