Imagine looking at the systematic slaughter of families and deciding that the architect of that horror deserves your admiration. Praising a perpetuator of genocide is not a political stance, it’s a total abdication of basic human decency. Shame on you @reda_getachew!
Getachew Hails Warlord Behind Tigray Ethnic Cleansing
Treacherous Getachew Reda praised Demeke Zewdu, the very man whom HRW and Amnesty accused in 2022 of orchestrating a "widespread and systematic" campaign of ethnic cleansing against the Tigrayan population in Western #Tigray.
Do the Tegaru cheering for this war understand the 500K+ ENDF troops and heavy artillery deployed is used to massacre their own ppl? Every bullet fired, every tank shell launched & every drone strike that lands is destroying an entire generation.
Makes me sick to my stomach :(
🇪🇹 #Ethiopia | Two videos from the TikTok accounts of soldiers show ENDF tanks (T-55) somewhere in the Tigray region, most likely heading north up the A2 road past Mekelle.
First video might be filmed here, at the edge of May Mekden: 13.583956, 39.570445
Airstrikes and artillery fire hit northern Ethiopia's Tigray region overnight into Monday morning, aid sources said, almost two weeks into clashes between federal government and rebel forces that have raised fears of wider fighting. https://t.co/GY52nw55Dd
Genocidal Ethiopian regime fresh drone strikes in Sheraro, Shire and Adwa have claimed innocent civilian lives and devastated infrastructure in #Tigray. This relentless violence against civilians must stop. @AFP@BBCWorld@CNN
My statement with @RepMcGovern and @RepGaramendi:
We are deeply alarmed by increasing violence in Ethiopia, including the Ethiopian military strike last week on an aid convoy delivering assistance in Tigray.
The 2022 Pretoria Agreement that silenced the guns in Northern Ethiopia committed all parties to ceasing hostilities, protecting civilians, allowing humanitarian access to those affected, and undertaking comprehensive transitional justice to hold those responsible for human rights abuses and violations responsible. Unfortunately, this agreement has not been upheld, and these conditions have not been met.
This increased conflict threatens the entire country and the region as a whole, which is already reeling from the previous war in Northern Ethiopia and the devastating conflict in Sudan. Ordinary civilians are bearing the brunt of this violence.
We urge all parties in Ethiopia to immediately recommit to peace negotiations and uphold their responsibilities under the Pretoria Agreement. Ethiopia’s neighbors and the international community must work to defuse tensions and facilitate peace.
We also urge the U.S. State Department to work with all parties to end the violence and hold those responsible accountable. The people of Ethiopia deserve peace and justice.
Enough is enough!
People in Ethiopia’s Tigray region are once again cut off from the internet + the world, with services disrupted since September 25.
The region has already endured a blackout lasting over two years in 2020. It must NOT happen again.

Since August, there's been an escalation in airstrikes in Tigray.
The resumption of hostilities in northern Ethiopia heightens concerns about unlawful attacks and the grave threat posed to civilians.
HRW's @LaetitiaBader spoke to @BBCNews' Focus on Africa:
#Ethiopian federal forces reportedly carried out air and artillery strikes on Maychew and Alamata in #Tigray, causing civilian casualties. Ayder Hospital in #Mekelle said it received 44 critically injured civilians, including 33 children.
I am following with deep concern the situation in Tigray and in the neighbouring regions of Afar and Amhara, where hostilities have once again broken out. I extend my heartfelt plea to all parties to choose the path of dialogue. Armed conflict never solves problems, but only worsens them leaving in its wake a trail of death, destruction and resentment. Only honest engagement can lay the foundations for lasting peace. It is my fervent hope that the international community will offer its generous and timely contribution to ensuring that all humanitarian aid be provided to those in need.
This isn't a thread about the genocide in Gaza.
It's a thread about a likely genocide somewhere else: Ethiopia. But please don't scroll on and ignore it. This story deserves amplification.
10.4 million people are in need of urgent food assistance in Ethiopia.
World leaders should recognize the reality of Ethiopia’s humanitarian catastrophe and the government’s actions contributing to it.
This is the greatest humanitarian crisis of the decade, though it gets so little attention.
@USAID needs to make this its first priority.

The people of #Tigray are starving.
Senior leadership at @USAID, @WFP, and the T-IRA must recognize that the time for performative actions is over.
If any of these entities cannot take meaningful action to save lives, then why do they exist?

#EthiopiaWatch:
With as many as 600,000 people killed as a result of PM Abiy Ahmed's invasion of the Tigray region, he should be "awarded" the Nobel War Prize.
It's been a year since the #Tigray peace agreement was reached.
A year later - humanitarian supplies remain limited, and Eritrean and Amhara forces are still occupying part of the region and perpetrating atrocities.
The 6+ million people who survived a brutal two-year siege deserve peace, health, and well-being.
