Emergency Preparedness & Response (EPR) and Search & Rescue training has been successfully conducted in Kapchorwa District, equipping District Disaster Management Committees from Bukwo District, Kween District, and across the Sebei Region, including partner NGOs, community-based organisations, OPM, Police, radio stations, and RCATs with practical, hands-on lifesaving skills.
The training was implemented by the Uganda Red Cross Society with support from the Office of the Prime Minister, aimed at strengthening emergency preparedness, coordination, and response capacity at district and regional levels.
This initiative enhances local readiness to effectively respond to disasters and emergencies, reinforcing multi-stakeholder collaboration and community resilience across the Sebei sub-region.

Our volunteers are local, everywhere, they come from the communities they serve, making them uniquely placed to understand needs and deliver lasting change.
Today, on this International Volunteer Day, we say 'thank you’ to our Red Cross and Red Crescent volunteers around the world. Whether they are responding to earthquakes or cyclones, to the climate crisis or to mass migration, their commitment has been unwavering. Every single day, they make a difference in people’s lives worldwide.
Under the coordination of @OPMUganda we continue to support households affected by the recent landslides in Kween District by providing Non-Food Item (NFI) kits to help replace property lost during the disaster. The assistance is aimed at supporting families in their recovery and will be utilized as they temporarily stay at the Benet Holding Center, established to accommodate displaced persons.
Uganda Red Cross plays an auxiliary role to the Government of Uganda during emergencies.

🎯 Day 3 (End of Lessons Learnt Engagement with DREF Operation Teams in Western Uganda)
On Day 3, which was also the end of the Lessons Learnt engagement with DREF Operations team, we continued to interact with the dedicated volunteers who played a crucial role in supporting the #DREF operation under the population movement response in Kisoro, Kanungu, Isingiro, and Kikuube districts.
The volunteers showcased a wide range of activities they were involved in to ensure the success of the operation. These included:
1️⃣ Community-Based Surveillance (CBS)
2️⃣ Screening at border points
3️⃣ Health education and hygiene promotion across refugee camps and transit centres
4️⃣ Verification of beneficiaries for cash and shelter assistance
5️⃣ Restoring Family Links (RFL) services
All participating volunteers had received a comprehensive training package that enabled them to carry out these interventions effectively.
↪️The training covered areas such as Community-Based Surveillance (CBS), Safe and Dignified Burials (SAF), Community Engagement and Accountability (CEA), Protection, Gender and Inclusion (PGI), and Risk Communication.
Their commitment and efforts have been instrumental in achieving the objectives of the @IFRC_DREF operation, and their experiences provide valuable insights for strengthening future emergency responses.

URCS Secretary General Visits Nakivale Refugee Settlement to Assess Progress of Key Humanitarian Interventions
📍Isingiro, Uganda – August 2025
Our Secretary General @robert_kwesiga (with a Red cap) is on a field mission to Nakivale Refugee Settlement, to assess the progress and impact of ongoing our humanitarian interventions, as well as identify gaps requiring strategic attention and support.
Among the highlights of the visit includes a tour of the Misierra Water Treatment Plant (Nakisawa Project) located in Rubondo zone, which aims to improve access to clean and safe water for thousands of refugees and residents. This plays a critical role in enhancing public health and reducing the risk of waterborne diseases.
He has equally visited the PFL office that offers essential services that help in reconnecting separated families, especially in displacement contexts.
In Julu Camp, he has a keen eye on DREF (Disaster Relief Emergency Fund) interventions, particularly the construction of Protection of Persons with Specific Needs (PSN) shelters, which provide safe and dignified housing for vulnerable individuals.
We continue to offer life saving services, build resilient communities and promote human dignity in all services we offer.
