20 senior decision makers and influencers with extensive engagement in the Universal Health Coverage movement convened in person at the Rockefeller Foundation’s Bellagio Centre in Italy. The aim of the convening was to ensure that we keep UHC high on the agenda. Two months following the UN High-level meeting on Universal Health Coverage a closed-door retreat was a timely opportunity for frank discussions, stocktaking, and forward planning to develop a more strategic approach on how to leverage and engage the broader UHC movement mid-point to the SDGs. I helped to bring the developing country perspective to the table, the reality of mixed health systems and the imperative of reform.

During the recent meeting of the @Senatepak Standing Committee on Law and Justice there was support from all parties for two of my constitutional amendment bills, aimed at amending articles 140A and 84.
The former is aimed at providing a basic constitutional framework to achieve the objective of devolution from the provincial to local level as conceived in the original Article 140A, whereas the latter is meant to rectify the process of approving supplementary budget grants.

I wish to thank members of the @SenatePakistan Standing Committee on Health for their bipartisan support and for unanimously approving my bill which mandates free emergency medical treatment for all in public hospitals in the islamabad capital territory.
Free emergency medical treatment is not only a moral imperative but also a matter of rights, with reference to the state-peoples’ relationship.

My proposed amendment to the Senate Rule #185 pertaining to conflict of interest safeguards, and aimed at institutionalising conflict of interest disclosure with a view to promoting public interest, transparency and good governance was vehemently opposed by the House. I am deeply disappointed.

I was humbled to be the only Pakistani speaking at the World Health Summit 2023 in #Berlin this week.
I spoke at the Keynote panel along with co-panelists, the German Minister of Health, Prof. Karl Lauterbach, the Brazilian Minister of Health, Nisia Veronica Trindade Lima, Prof. Ilona Kickbusch and other colleagues commemorating the 75th anniversary of #WHO, which as the worlds only multilateral agency in health is critically needed but it’s weaknesses must be bridged.
On another panel, I joined Chris Elias, President of the BMGF and Loyce Pace, Assistant Secretary for Global Health, USA; we deliberated on women’s health issues and the need for a holistic approach to promote gender equality and the right to health throughout women’s lives.
Congratulations to the federal government of Germany for hosting a much needed conference.

بل بعنوان "پاکستان احساس ٹارگٹڈ سبسڈی (رعایت) پروگرام" میری طرف سے سینٹ کی قائمہ کمیٹی کو غور و حوض کیلیئے بھجوا دیا گیا ہے۔ اگر منظوری کے بعد اس پر عمل درآمد ہو جاتا ہے تو پاکستان میں جاری 40فیصد بےپناہ مہنگائی سے متاثرہ لاکھوں خاندان ضروری اشیائے خوردونوش پر ٹارگٹڈ سبسڈی حاصل کر سکیں گے۔ اس پروگرام کی افادیت اور شفافیت کا عملی مظاہرہ سب نے دیکھا تھا جب فروری تا جون 2022 کے دوران نصف سے زائد ملک میں اور بعدازاں پنجاب بھر میں اس کو چلایا گیا۔ اللہ سے میری دعا ہے کہ اس بل کو عملی جامہ پہنانے میں مجھے کامیابی حاصل ہو تاکہ لاکھوں مستحق خاندانوں کا بھلا ہو سکے۔
